Back in Les Arcs for Christmas with Jane. Had a short, but energetic ski this morning, taking advantage of the new snow that fell last night. Piste conditions around Arc 1800 and Vallandry are very good (although I didn't ski below the Derby lift) and found some nice bits of side-country to play in. Photos and stuff on my blog.

(Kevins' daughter posting on his account!)
Spent today skiing with snowcrazy, who as asked us to post on his behalf.
Headed over to La Plagne this morning in the hope of finding some more powder. The slopes were pretty icy down towards the bottom of La Plagne (around the Vanoise Express). Took the gondola (Lac Noir) to get higher up, where snow was much better albeit still icy. Had some good runs off-piste under the Crozettes lift, although powder was deep, it was much heavier going then yesterday and several of us (myself excluded) got stuck in the snow.
We then headed off towards Belle Plagne and La Plagne Bellecotte, which although had marginnally less icy slopes, was filled with people. Had a latish lunch (at the top of Les Blanchettes lift) before deciding to head back towards Les Arcs. Snow conditions were even worse of the run down with quite a few bare patches and lots of ice (made even better by the hundreds of people also on the long blue Mont Blanc run.)
Back in Les Arcs, took a run through some trees on the way to the Derby lift in an attempt to avoid the crowds. Then headed up on Transarc over to Arc 1950 where we've had some apres ski drinks in Georges Bar.
Snow was varied throughout the day, although we found a few nice pieces of powder, most of it was pretty heavy and on-piste, slopes were fairly icy. Light got worse as the day went on and by mid afternoon was very flat.
Generally much warmer today then it has been (according to the sign at the Vanoise express it was +6 degrees!) although we're warned of the posibility of 'precipitation' tonight!
Thanks to Snowcrazy for guiding us around for the last couple of days!
Millie

thefatcontroller, I still haven't pulled the cover of Arcabulle
bertie bassett, journey out was same as usual. Just a 30 minute delay on Eurotunnel, then the drive across France was clear. I think we got lucky though, travelling on a clear day in between a couple of very disrupted days.

Seems to have snowed for most of the night, and is still snowing gently this morning. Not a huge amount has fallen, maybe 5 - 10cm, but enough to freshen the pistes once again and to give the pisteurs something to do this morning (just heard a couple of avy blasts). It's very cloudy at the moment, so visibility will be poor.
Forecast seems to be for more showers on and off for the next few days, falling as snow on the upper slopes but Christmas day will bring rain to lower slopes.

A lot of snow last night they were blasting for quite a while this morning and links did not open until 11.00.
Managed to get to Bois de L'ours just as it opened and had some great powder runs down the other side under the Arpette lift.
Then came back to 2000 bowl and skied under the Arcabulle although by then it was getting fairly tracked out.
After lunch the Lanchettes opened so went up and did the Comtos which was thick heavy powder but still a lot of rock showing and stones coming through.
Altogether a great days sking particularly this morning.
Apart from the Lanchettes never saw any of the upper lifts open.

It was that cold on Saturday?! I didn't know the temperature but my hands went on the run home and hurt like hell when they warmed up - my friend's water bottle froze in his pocket! Still, cosy memories of a great week - look forward to next year when I hope to discover more of Les Arcs.

Bit of a grey and overcast day today, a stark contrast to yesterday's fun. However, we escaped the rain that was forecast so it could have been worse. Santa has just arrived, accompanied by a torchlit descent and some nice fireworks. Photos and a snow report on my blog.
A Merry Christmas to everyone!

rob@rar, A Merry Christmas to you as well. I hope you are enjoying the new snow although it sounds rather warm.
Best wishes for the festive season to anyone else coming out soon and to those I have skied with over the past few weeks. Hope you are all having a good holiday.

It started to rain last night at about 10pm but the temperature must have dropped during the night because Santa delivered about 10cm of fresh snow at resort level this morning. An unexpected gift! Looking down the valley I'd guess the snowline seems to be around 1400m. The forecast is for the temperature to continue to fall, with the possibility of a little bit more snow.

Avy blasting continues and the higher lifts are still closed. Very heavy cloud and, in Jane's words, "it's piddling down with snow". We'll ski later, but now it's time for a Christmas walk and hope the weather clears a little.

It's continued to snow on and off all day, and the temperature is beginning to drop. Snow is very heavy off-piste, and the visibility above 2400m was very poor so I didn't ski too much today. Had some great laps around the (currently closed) Golf piste hitting bumps that were disguised under 20cm of fresh snow - not sure my knees are up to skiing too much of that. An early finish to get back to the apartment to start cooking Christmas Dinner. What a lovely way to spend Christmas day
Photos and stuff on my blog.
Merry Christmas to all!

Are there closed piste markers up on Golf now? Nothing of the sort last week which lead to the conditions being far beyond my ability, and eventually I was able to escape off to the right.
Merry Xmas,
Andy.

Yes, there's a sign at the start of the steep pitch which says it's closed. So far no piste markers down the sides of the piste, but it's pretty well skied with bumps beginning to grow (covered today but a layer of fresh - mucho fun!).
