Lou, no I hear that all the binmen etc in Brighton have been put on pavement gritting duties this morning! Take care, you need all your limbs in good working order.

20cm on the balcony.
We're having a slow start this morning - that lay in that we've promised ourselves for the last 4-5 weeks. (Probably) heading up Grande Terche in a bit...

Thats the lift up from towards les linderets and ardent. But it is a 360 deg camera ,so its Les Cozets down the other side !!
The other lift you can see is Cubore over to Avoriaz

Five or six laps (top of the drag lift to the village) of Grande Terche today. Very tired legs.
A reasonable amount of fluffy stuff still available given the late hour of our arrival (11:00 ish). Excepting some small rocks near the top of the drag, there was good snow coverage all the way down. Only the front runs are currently open (Roc d'Enfer circuit is currently shut - although I suspect there's enough snow).
Lunch in Pere Bill's.
Complete culture shock in the new Carrefour (ex-Champion) supermarket in St Jean d'Aulp.

Temperature is up in Moezine - 2 deg on our balcony at the moment.
Let's hope that the forecast is as inaccurate as it's been for the last two days!

ChamperyTuesday morning and its raining hard in the village, high winds on top with intermittant rain showers too in Les Crosets. Lots of links and lifts currently closed due to wind....Sorry!

Mrs S says she's been skiing in slush today with the link over to Avoriaz from Morzine closed!
Pretty glad I came home yesterday after a lovely powder day. Hardly skied a piste all day and that's no bad thing judging by the roving gangs of Parisians clogging up the runs.
Why is it they always seem to hang around in groups no smaller than 20!?!

doctor_eeyore, brutal wind was the problem today.
In answer to your question about why ProClou was shut and Grandes Combes was open - I think it's because Grands Combes is only two years old and can operate in higher winds.
All of the link lifts were shut today (no matter the age) - which I'm presuming was a precautionary measure to avoid people being stranded outside of their area.
I got across from Super Morzine to Avoriaz by skinning up Proclou - something that so impressed a pisteur that he stopped as he was passing on a snowmobile to offer me a little snifter of "something"!
Arare was really brutal - so much so that I gave up on it after two runs.
Linderats was ok - sheltered and good snow. Not that that helped my telemarking, but ho hum.
It was slushy below 1500m late this afternoon - which will probably help matters as long as it freezes tonight. The comedy weather station is currently reading 4 degrees on the balcony - so all should be fine.

Dreadful sound of rain teeming down at the moment in Les Gets but hopefully its going to drop below the +1.3 registering - hard to believe it was +5 this afternoon after -19 on Sunday morning.
Did another huge shop in CarreFour this afternoon - I think we can eat till the end of February now. Can't get the hang of the new layout in the store though or understand the logic behind it, but expect I will get used to it.
We went up Mt Chery this morning - mostly to just book at table for Christmas Day - if we can get to the Grande Ourse, or away from it afterwards. Very helpful guy at the bottom actually took our skis and put them in the rack - I don't think that will last. The Marmotte run down the back was much better than we expected it to be.

Rain and "lumpy rain" all evening and still going as I head to bed.
Comedy weather station was saying 3 degrees, but is now reading 1.8 degrees - so there will be freshies to be had up top tomorrow.
Completely agree with Pamski on the store layout. Not good.

Well, it rained / snowed all of last night. The important question is where the freezing level was...

Apparently rain/snow limit was around 1300m over in Cham last night so hopefully same in the pds and we have mainly new freshies on the slopes!

In Avoriaz for the fourth day, snow is excellent!!! A bit bare yesterday down combe a floret but after the snow last night it's back to it's best! The off piste is awesome some really deep powder as I found out! Trying to get out of snow waist deep with a board on really takes it out of you! All the slopes higher up are in good condition. If you were like me and were worried about the snow in Avoriaz DON'T!!
|

I'd say 30-40cm of snow. There was fresh snow at Ardent and at the bottom of Zore - so freezing level was probably around the 1200-1300m mark.
A fairly tame day as I was teaching a friend to telemark. Pistes in excellent condition.

Constant, light rain at the village level last night and 2 degrees according to the comedy weather station.

Travelling to Les Gets on New Years Day. How's it looking at the moment?

7and2suited, I'm in the UK at the moment for xmas but looking at the webcams I'd say it looks blown and/or rained on. The 4fast is for alternating rain/snow for the next few days so expect the same.
