Some friends went to Mannlichen and had a few runs today. Very weird apparently, just a strip of artificial snow and the rest of the mountain virtually bare. Lots of snow due at the end of the week though, so not to worry.

Snow now forecast for Friday this week until Wednesday next week, however it will only probably be light snow still, fingers crossed

Oh dear, according to MetCheck Wengen will get a total of ....... 88cm of snow between Friday and Tuesday !....  Of course thats if you believe MetCheck

Met check have revised their forecast they now predict 105 cms from Friday till Monday ! Mind you Meteo Swiss predict Snow every day from Friday this week till Christmas Eve which is as far as their forecast goes, even Snow Guess predicts 93cm over the weekend, half of that will be fine and ensure good skiing is had by all in the area

Just been chatting to Steve at Central Sport in Wengen. There seems to be much uncertainty over the freezing level for the weekend, however, as NASA would say, 'confidence is high at this time'. Mind you, he would say that, wouldn't he.

Great snow news - let's hope the forecasts are correct. Any snowfall is a bonus as I really thought Christmas would be spent WALIKING in Wengen rather than Skiing

Brian T, many years ago my parents and I toured the rose gardens of Wengen on Christmas Eve, on Christmas day however I awoke to about 2 ft or more of fresh powder snow, it can happen !

Tiny bit last night, more forecast for tonight, according to met check the next 3 days will still produce about 90 cm of snow, Snow guess is suggesting something closer to 70 cm of snow, 30-40 cm is all you actually need, though obviously more is better, long range forecasts predict colder weather next week so any snow that falls should stay till after Christmas

there's just been a brief but violent storm in the village. Temps are down to zero and it's still snowing, though not as heavily as I,d like.

kuwait_ian, sadly you were quite correct, some snow last night but nowhere near as much as was forecast by the two guessing companies I previouly mentioned, meteo schweiz was much closer with their 1-5mm of precipitation = 1-5cm of snow however today and tommorrow they forecast 5-20cm of snow so there's still a chance fo wengen

Starting to look a bit better for Wengen with more snow forecast for today.
15cm on the Beginner slopes in the Village
20cm at Wengeneralp
25cm at Kline Schidegg/Mannlichen
50cm at Eigergletscher
Mannlichen and Arven lifts open but that's it lower slopes closed ! Uppper slopes powder !
First claims 50cm
Grindelwald 10cm
Murren wants us to believe they have 35cm
And the Schilthorn apparently has 60cm
Weather forecast for the area
Today more snow probably about 10cm, clearing for Monday till Wednesday night with cold clear weather, clouding over wednesday evening with light rain or snow on and off untill boxingday when a significant temperature drop will occur, now going into the realms of the possible as we get further away in time, monday and tuesday after Christmas may give up to 25cm of snow with further light snow for the rest of the week along with nice cold temperatures, that's my forecast by the way
MeteoShweiz gives similar values though they ony predict as far as the 28th of December
Metcheck says 18cm today, plus 10 cm a day for thursday friday and saturday
Snowguess says 15cm today plus 3 or 4cm thursday and friday

It's been a depressing day. Windy and rain or snow at altitude, rain rain rain in the village. Popped into the Silberhorn bar for a few sharpeners at 5-ish, and emerged 30 minutes ago to find 4 inches of new snow! Tobogganed down to have dinner with friends (and to borrow their laptop) , and it's really snowing properly. Things are looking excellent for tomorrow! Despite the new snow over the weekend there are no more lifts or pistes open, still just Arven and Mannlichen.
So it needs to keep going all night, keep dancing!

Does anyone know why there are so few runs open with that depth of snow, or does it take a few days for the pists to be bashed into shape

fantastic powder day today, Lauberhorn open.
Valley runs to Brandegg and Allmend opening tomorrow, everything else, including Mannlichen to Scheidegg liaison on Wednesday.

Brian T, they like it to settle for a day where possible at the beginning of the season as it binds better also they have to piste prep areas arround the lifts and the tracks of drag lifts or you ski through mud, then they will piste bash it starting from the top and working down

The forecast looks good for Wengen getting up to 30cm of snow over the Christmas weekend with possible significant further snowfall in early January and occasional snow in between, temps should stay low enough that no significant snow loss (beyond settling) will occur in the mean time

Help ! when I chose my snowhead name of riverman i typed it into the box in capitals by mistake. This I know is considered to be a little rude. Does anybody know how to change it back to small letters

Anticipate significant snowfalls starting late on Christmas Day and covering Boxing Day, Chris you may want to stay in on Sunday you could get up to 35cm of snow, this should be followed by several nice days but thursday may be bad with just possibly some rain at lower levels

By the way for anyone out there at the moment could someone check at one of the local weather stations e.g the one in the arcade by the hotel silberhorn in wengen and let me know the normal barometric pressure, it will help with the forecasting
