Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@drporat, Roc d’Enfer is a good morning out - def worth doing if there is plenty of snow and you can get the whole way around. Espec if you like to tick off all runs available on your pass.

@turms2, Linga and PLJ are both in the shade so cooler and keep their snow, easier to snow cannon too due to same reason.

I was not complaining! Smile If there was anyone to blame it would be myself Embarassed but even so, in a way it was fun.

Today they opened that area and it was obviously a lot more enjoyable.

We met a young British snowboarder that had lost his group - boys will be boys, he didn't wait for them and then had no idea where they were, where to go nor what to do. Luckily we made him describe the teacher, and LG is not exactly packed with boarders, so we managed to find them. I'm wondering what our little one would do in that situation...

I've booked a bit of an impulsive trip to the area for a few days arriving on Sunday. First time away skiing in around 5 years so it's fair to say excitement levels are high! Looking for a bit of info on the resort.

- I'm staying near Pied De La Plagne - what are the bus links like between here and Morzine itself?
- Given the current conditions / weather forecast it looks like the higher parts of the resort will be where we'll do the majority of our skiing. Would you say the Super Morzine is the easiest way to access the higher slopes? Or again would the bus be an option?
- Is there anywhere to leave ski stuff overnight? Would save us trailing our stuff back to the apartment at the end of each day.
- I don't think we'll have time for any lessons but if we have a late change of heart does anyone have any recommendations for someone to use?

Thanks for any advice. If you have any other tips for what to do in the resort or any specific areas we should venture to whilst we're away these would also be much appreciated Smile

PLJ home runs are more or less permanently in the shade these days so I'm sure that helps. I skied on Sunday and again today, the snow cover is noticeably thinner in the sunny spots.

Indeed super busy today, Ardent car park full around 9:30. Ardent home run is also skiable although it's super icy and not quite fun tbh.
Overall felt like spring snow albeit a bit cooler feeling due to some wind.

Anyone know if there is parking at the bottom of the Nyon telecabin and if so how available and pricey it is? Thinking it could be a solution for getting from our near montriond accomodation onto the nyon les gets side?

@Innescal89, from Pied de la Plagne you need the U bus that runs every 15 mins at peak times, every half hour middle of the day. If you’re on the Route de la Plagne itself you can also get the P bus that just runs up and down that road.

Super Morzine will have you skiing sooner, but you have a green road and two lifts to get to the ridge above Avoriaz. Or you can hop off the bus at the Rond Point de la Passarelle (the Super M stop) and jump on an A bus to Prodains from the same stop (they run every 7 mins) and get the gondola straight into Avoriaz. Top tip if you do is to ski straight down the blue Crôt run and head for the Grandes Combes chair - often much quieter.

If you’re hiring skis Intersport and Hubert Sports both have lockers/storage near Super M, but I think you have to go up to Pleney for public hire lockers.

And if you’re staying in P de la P you have Le Local half way home for a beer if you’re walking back after the buses finish (last one back is about 1930). Decent food as well - closed Monday.

A bit of a faff from Pied de la Plagne - you’d have to get the bus into town and walk over the bridge by Super Morzine to pick up the M bus on the other side. Probably not worth the hassle (our place is in Pied de la Plagne and we’d only ever go to Ardent if we drive up - my daughters, however, often do Happy Hours aprés on a Wednesday and generally get a taxi back).

But imho too much hassle to be worth a trip from Avoriaz. It’d be a 40 minute drive each way or three buses (and the circuit’s not open at the moment).

. You're never more that 10mins (lovely) walk from the centre wherever you stay. It's car-free so very compact. Public elevators get you around. If Dromonts or Mil8 hotels are not in budget, the rest is all apartments (plus a few chalets). You pays your money and takes your choice. snowHead

PLJ has 3 runs down (Red, Green and Blue) vs Ardent where everybody uses the same home run and therefore it gets more choppy.
Also at Ardent you notice the transition from real to cannoned snow more, as you go in and out of it. At PLJ there's normally a 2m wide strip of cannoned and and loose snow down both sides if you don't like the hard pack in the middle. Once your in the stuff at the side you can stay in it all the way down.

PLJ has way more parking (up to P7) and it has not been full yet this season, but the Perdrix Blanche is not a patch on Happy Hours for a nice Apres beer.
If I can get out early I'll go to Ardent, If theres good snow I'll go to SM (Zorre), if its feb holidays I'll go to La Chapelle or St Jean, for all other cases I end up at PLJ, as its easy to park.

Appreciate the insights, and def helpful to keep in mind. I'm GVA-based so PLJ is an extra 10-15 min drive each way. The Roc d'Enfer area is indeed quieter during Feb holidays, though I found Sat mornings to be good even in Feb.

@Innescal89, I think Tuesday is going to be a bit grim with fairly heavy snow above about 1500m and strongish winds, rain below that - head for Lindarets! The rest of the week looks “changeable” but with the freezing leven dropping significantly from Thursday to around village level in Morzine. I reckon you’ll have a great time with some fresh snow high up on several days. Enjoy!

Played around the speed traps (not on) at Chalet Neuf for a while which was lovely. A brief temptation to do the loop took us towards Morgins but we decided against as it was patchy and went back to Chatel. Plaine Dranse super today - less people about.

We had lunch at Le Cret (near the Conche lift) - really good and a new one for us.

Good intel on morgin being patchy. We ski from sunday and i was hoping to do the circuit from linderet out there and back through chatel and PLJ. Will watch weather which seems really finely balenced between lots of snow and lots of rain at middling altitudes.

Have been checking the forecast religiously over the past few days.

Tuesday is going to be interesting by the looks of it - may be a day to rest the legs. Hopefully the FL drops a bit so that the whole ski area gets a bit of a top up. But rain looking more likely right now.

As you say, worst case the areas up high should be good with the fresh snow that is forecast.

@Innescal89 if 1500m is as high as it goes everywhere in the Avoriaz area will get snow - the Super M gondola top station is at 1400+a bit, so everywhere should get a top up. The bottom of the lifts in the bowl on the Les Gets side is a similar elevation. I can’t see the bottom of Pleney turning white for a few days, but other than Tuesday (as you say a good day to go swimming!) I think it looks fine - and infinitely better than last year!

We’re heading out on the 12th for a week and been checking Bergfex religiously. We were there the same week last year and were confined to the Avoriaz area so hopeful to explore the slopes of Morzine and Les Gets this time around. It would also be lovely to see the pleney with snow on and even better to be able to ski down it!

Is Bergfex generally pretty good or is there another source I should look to?

@kinger123, Meteo France have a “MeteoSki” app that’s pretty good, and MeteoBlue uses a variety of models and has some fab weather maps if you’re on a tablet. Pleney’s got lots of snow, but only right on the top so the bit you see from the village is very green just now - tentative signs of some village level snow from 7/1 but that’s a long way away.

It’s been mayhem in Chatel village and surrounding roads during rush hour for the holidays. Took 50 mins to get from PLJ back to village at the end of today, Slopes seems to be coping well as skiers are able to disperse from 1500m and above as there is good snow cover. I assume Morzine and Les Gets have issues with home runs but all is fine above? Took these pics yesterday at Plane Dranse in Chatel which is around 1600m.

Yep - only one LG home run open (Chavannes side), pretty busy at EOD, it's a wonder it survives. Or just amazing work from the pistes services.

Chery South side is great in the morning, not so of course in the afternoon.

And higher is acceptable I guess, we just enjoy the snow while it lasts.
