Just starting to pack. The car is full of fuel. Snow chains loaded. Just in case. The ski clothing has all been located. The pain killers sorted. The chrismas presents all ready to go in the car, Out of office posted on the works email, Ah, I must find the apartment keys. I'm not sure if it will all go in. Early to bed then a 5:00 start. 10:50 tunnel and hopefully in the Abrevoir for a drink well before midnight.

The forecast snow has started to arrive. I know there have been questions about where the snow line will be, so it's currently zero degrees at 1800m.

Not for the full season, I'd go a little bit mad. So I travel back and fore, as well as skiing elsewhere.

Was snowing in Vallandry and Peisey this morning, but felt as if it was getting a bit wetter than ideal at the bottom. Lovely stuff to ski on through the tree lined runs though, even if light was getting a bit flatter than I'd like. Managed to get back into the 2000 bowl where it was / is blowing a hoolie over the top, so am spending the afternoon doing emails, with skis in for overnight service up at Equilibres. Snow at 1950 is falling vertically, so no / little wind here (3pm local time). Some friends already left for their flights from Lyon tomorrow (will stay overnight in the town); it is going to be an interesting transfer day tomorrow if this keeps up.

looks like it'll get warmer still from GFS until cooling down 23rd and warming back up 24/25th (but hopefully dry) before another cooling down/warming up spell again. Longer term looks like a steady temp decline into the new year (but too far out to be taken seriously!)

Hi all. Looking forward to heading out at the end of January. I am staying until March and would be keen to go out skiing with anyone who is around?
I bought my season before the end on November but there didn't appear to be an option to buy a season Carre Neige card. I am sure this has been an option in the past, having bought a few Les Arcs season passes before.
Would I have to go to the lift pass office on arrival?
My girlfriend is a qualified massage therapist if any fancies a massage let me know but as she will be working a lot, I will be mostly skiing on my own.
Give me a shout if you fancy going out for the day. Think I am a reasonably good skier but having just read the thread about 'what is an intermediate skier', I'll leave that for you to decide!

Got to arc 1600 just before 10 after a pretty tough drive down- heavy rain, spray and traffic. The road to 1600 was clear but is now icing up a bit so be careful.
Sadly abrevoir is not opening until tomorrow .
I hope there is some good sling tomorrow.
Nighty night all

After early morning indecision from the weather gods was it rain, sleet or snow? and it kept changing as the isotherms moved up and down, It is most certainly snow at 1950 right now. Lots of.
Despite being a changeover day, may take it easy: the vis is variable, the precipitation damp, and the wind gusting.

Out for about 3 hours: not bad condition in the trees. Even had some sunshine and shadows! But after lunch it started raining down in Vallandry, changed to snow before getting to top of Vallandry lift.
Snowing lightly here now (15:15) in 1950. We're done for the day.
As an aside, they've now made 2 of the 5 entry gates into the Derby lift "Paradiski" passes only: presumably as an incentive to buy the things. Saw "Arcs only" passes not working, and the lifties re-directing people to the other gates. I guess they've done the numbers, but it does seem as little draconian, and likely to cause chaos when its busy AND people don't know they are in the wrong part of the queue.
More people on the piste today than all of last week - could be a busy Christmas week.

After the rain of last night i was worried about the snow conditions but it turned out fine. In places the snow was a tsd heavy but mainly well pisted good quality snow.
The resort was generally very quiet and I would estimate only half open. I hope they open more next week, but by the look of comborciere I doubt it. There is, however, plenty for 10 days entertainment. I just hope it doesn't get too crowded.

Not bothered heading out today as weather looks a bit miserable, and I refuse to ski in the rain. Raining up to at least 2000m from what I can see looking out the window, same as yesterday. Disappointing after last week's excellent conditions.

I can confirm it's drizzling. I don't mind the rain too much but the poor viz above 2000 puts me off. We are now sitting in the arpette having a vin chaud and booking Wednesday night's meal.
Just did golet for the first time in 30 years. It was empty and actually good fun.

No roulle has always been roulle even when it used to be classified as a red. I do it often.
If you take source from the arpette and turn left a few hundred metres down then that is gollet. It used to go all the way into 1600 but now is renamed traverse for the last bit. It used be the easy way back to 1600 especially if you drank to much at the arpette.

Ah, that one! I rarely ski it, but it's the piste I can see from my apartment. The last time I skied it it was boot deep light powder, first tracks down the section before it flattens off and becomes Traverse. Sweet

Today was very different to yesterday. The pistes froze overnight so were hard and firm. The sun came out . And so did lots of people. There were lift queues, but my paradiski pass allow us to jump many.
The best bits today were either below lifts ( below the plangettes) down closed runs (from the varet) or just exploring near piste stuff.
We even did secrets.
The rain yesterday soaked into the snow and froze forming a very dense hard base which should last well into the season.

Catch the bus to La Rosiere, ski over the border to La Thuile. Any restaurant should do nice hot chocolate. There's nowhere in France which does it well

Sorry, I've only ever driven there, parking at the bottom of the Ecudets chairlift rather than drivingly the way up to La Rob. I believe there is a shuttle bus service from Bourg, but I've never used it.

Happy Christmas everyone! Hope all those in resort are enjoying the snow and not getting to wet from the rain. Hope to see some of you over the New Year week.
@johnE, it is really easy with the shuttle bus. Just get the early funi and the bus leaves the bottom of the funi at about 9am for the lift. It is free bus, but you must buy discounted ski pass to go on La Ros lifts. Make sure you have season pass and the invoice slip to prove you have paid this season. For return do not miss the last bus from bottom of chair or taxi is expensive. You can also get a bus down from La Ros to Bourg cost 10 euros and go home later. Last funi up is 8pm most days.
You need to check bus times for this season, but i am guessing they have not changed. Enjoy the trip over to Italy. It is a nice day out. Please post details if you do it to update my post. Thanks.

It's gone very quiet here recently. I've been a bit too tired in the evening to post so here is a quick update,
:
Since the rain of Sunday the pistes have become rock hard and in places very smooth. This solid base should last well into the season.
A lot of the runs remain closed such as those from the varet lift. However there are a bumps building up already showing a fair bit of traffic.
For Christmas week the resort is quiet but more people are arriving all the time. We just saw car load arrive this morning.
The paradiski lift pass allows significant queue jumping at some lifts. I hadn't realised just how few of these passes were sold.
Last but not least I found the timetable for the navette to la rossiere

Saw something about the Paradiski on a shortcut queue at the Varet the other day, is it a priority line for all Paradiski passes? We have La Plagne issued employer discount season passes and weren't sure if it applied to ours. Didn't want to try and not get through as it was rammed at the time. There don't seem to be any special lines on the La Plagne side.

@RobinS, I don't know about la plane issued passes, but assume the priority still applies. The lifts concerned are: mont blanc, villards, derby, carreley, varet and comborciere. We think we saved almost 5 minutes at each lift. It could have been more if we weren't held up by people who were not allowed through coming back (I wonder if they were from la plagne)

is it not as simple as if you have a pass for the full area both resorts, you can use the priority queue regardless of which side you bought it?
