Having had a look at the pictures of the Russian Zorbing fatality I have to say I'm amazed that they were doing this with no safety at all, there was nothing to prevent the zorb going off down the slope and over, they don't even appear to have had any staff stationed on the downhill side of the zorb track, just having one person there on skis might have prevented the accident, though it would have been far more sensible to have had some rope netting down either side of the run to make sure the zorb didn't wander off, tragic that a young father should loose his life like this.
Having now watched the video of this it almost looks like he was murdered... The guy pushes the Zorb off at a crazy angle so that it bounces from side to side and then over and out of the poxy little snow-bank 'run' and away it goes out of control. Just looks deliberate to me

red 27, No, it's just sorta normal slavic bodgit'll do, what can go wrong hangover from the bad ol'days . . . I'd love to go to the olympics as an observer, there could be some epic cockups hopefully not dangerous though.

This forum is preternaturally obsessed with the Russians for some reason.
Nah, not really (I would have noticed) and the thread title is just typical Mr Cloggy. He does not a whole forum make, luckily.
Also, knowing his form, this whole thread is probably a sly troll hoping to stir up a good old round of Russian-bashing.

I'm working on the resort in Sochi and so I'd like to state for the record that the construction work is going brilliantly and everything will be ready bang on time.
With the possible of exception of one of the athlete hotels (not ours) which has sunk 2m into the swamp

I've thought of several answers to this but they'll all get me into trouble.

So - they build another floor on the top and turn the (now) basement into a swimming pool, what's the problem?

So (re your other whinge) it's not that you're ignored, more overlooked?
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

fatbob, yep, frequently overlooked, I'm afraid. I nearly got knocked over in the street only yesterday, by a woman who was gesticulating to a friend on the other side of the road and who didn't notice that she was walking directly at me, since I was below her radar.
You know it makes sense.

The You tube version of this is becoming quite "popular"
It contains additional video at the end from a second camera position as it goes down the ravine which the DM site declined to show.

Some people on here are cowards, fools and idiots. I can't believe that some would make jokes like this after the death of several people who have kids or whose parents are now grieving.
I'm a Brit but I live in Russia and know how the Russians behave - to suggest that the Brits are less likely to get involved in drunked behaviour is a joke. If it was Brits it probably wouldn't have happened as they would have all beaten each other to pieces in the restaurant after a skinful !!! How's that for a generalisation?
When we were in Meribel our instructor invited us to his friend's restaurant up a mountain somewhere. We went up by snowmobile and they wanted us to go back the same way. I didn't think twice until I realised the driver was the French guy who'd out-drank me for the previous 3 or 4 hours. When I refused, he complained a lot and then said "ok, I'll go down and bring my car up to take you back down."
You couldn't have made it up.
I'm sure there is someone to blame for the death of these Russians but these accidents can happen to all nationalities when they're on holiday in a skiing resort where apres-skiing is considered one of the main attractions.
Thanks to those who at least had some sympathy for the dead and their families.
Just be happy that it wasn't you or your family that this happened too.
All generalisations are stupid, including the many with which your post is filled. And this is in addition to the assumption you appear to have made that some posters are without sympathy for the dead and their families - irrespective of what they may have posted about the likely cause of this tragedy.
