I'm certain I've seen those pictures on a website for a chalet in Courchevel or Verbier. The magazines on the table on the Contact page are also all French magazines !!! I'm afraid this is a complete scam and I don't think this chalet even exists in St Anton. I'd phone the police as has been suggested. |
Seems to be a property called Le Rocher in Val D'Isere. http://www.oxfordski.com/properties/lerocher
Found that by using the picture of the cow sofa to do a google image search. Seems pretty definitive evidence, sorry.

Yeah I've just done some digging myself, and if you type in ski chalet pool into google. It returns the picture of the pool and turns out to be...

clairepow, Good luck resolving this, looks like a definite scam. Have you thought about making contact with either or all of the other properties owners? I know the place with the sloping curved roof is kosher, whether the inside photos reflect the outside is unknown, but you'd be able to get hold of the owners there following done detective work, via the tourist office (who all speak perfect English), suggest you call that chalet place and get them on the case....you never know that could be Carlos' hideout locally? Also I'd definitely suggest UK police (and BBC watchdog it's a painful event but a sexy story and you never know?!!)
Good luck anyway.

Yes tried that too by phone & email but it's a Spanish bank!! They don't seem to answer either!!! Our bank have also chased them several times for the money but they just say they have been unable to contact their client. Just think they don't care.

Don't phone them between the hours of 10am and 4pm, or between 5pm and 9:30am. That's when the Spanish are sleeping.

Yeah careful with that in case it's an identity theft job as well.
"Bo Marin" is a coincidental choice of name too, given that there's a chalet Marin in Grand Bornand (affectionately known as Grand 'Bo' to locals).
If you've got his email address, you could always just sign him up to absolutely loads and loads and loads of junk mailing lists and scat porn sites. That's what I'd do.

I don't understand why your bank is not pursuing this through the details they transferred the money to. They have an obligation to you as a customer to try and assist. Worth speaking to consumer rights organisations, start with Moneysavingexpert and similar - if they pick up a story that the media might pick up on, your bank might find themselves under some pressure to be more useful.
The police might also find they get further with the bank, if that is the case they may be able to get info that you can't. Keep badgering, this is a lot of money for an individual to be defrauded of.

What normally happens next in these kinds of circumstances, is that the chalet owner / tour operator / whatever in question will now sign up to snowHeads, offer a flimsy excuse about what happened, sideload a metric ton of smarmy advertising for themselves into the deal, and be copiously praised and kissed up to by everyone shortly afterwards.

If you mean the other properties listed under St Anton chalets, they're kosher. They are some of the chalets that Ski Val run, strangely not all of them tho...

monkey, that's the address given in all his listings, so he's at least consistent.
If you Google Street View it, it's a shabby flat above a hairdressers. Doesn't look like the kind of gaff owned by a man who owns exclusive ski chalets and villas all over Europe. Then again, we've established it might be identity theft and possibly bogus details, so we might be looking at the address of another victim.

Gutted for you. Its quite easy to see why you wanted to book this chalet, looks stunning on those pictures, even though its a chalet in France!!! Really hope you get your money back somehow. This kind of reminds me of when i was in the 3V in February earlier this year. The chalet we stayed in was a complete shambles, and loads of families had been conned/ripped off. I made an entire thread on it and it even made national news --->>>. http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=86986
What this guy did was have a PO box as the address. Thankfully i got really lucky, and things went tits up during our holiday, then for the guests who arrived as we were leaving.
Good luck, keep us posted.

Never mind contacting his bank, I'd start with the police (or possibly start a thread on TGR to solicit a hungry malamute depending on which you feel would be more effective).
