Goasstall is an essential vist for Apreski.
Only drawback is the 3-400 metre walk to where the ski bus picks up to return you to Saalbach or you take a taxi.
Another in Hinterglemm is at the other end of town called the Hexenhausl and outside of which the buses depart for your return to Saalbach. Maybe Tatman could script another route that would put you finishing at this end of Hinterglemm - it's worth a look as apreski goes.
Tataman, the route you gave for the Goasstall is virtually my best day of skiiing - which is nice

The ski bus stops running at about 5pm, so you're better off skiing down to the bottom of the Reiterkogel from Goasstall and walking to the Taxi rank on the main street.

oofaafuu, Last season we maintained a sort of running vote on whether people preferred the Goassstall or its Saalbach rival, the Hinterhag Alm. The Hinterhag Alm seemed to win by a short head, but, as they're so different, it's no doubt a case of 'vive la difference'. We tend to alternate between them, and the weather and nocturnal air temps can sometimes influence the choice.

The night skiing is highly recommended, both for the indefatigable and those with a romantic disposition - the glittering white piste, the stars, and all those twinkling lights down in the valley. Since the floodlit piste was significantly extended a couple of years ago (at which time the brand spanking new U-bahn gondola lift was also installed in place of the old T-bar to the top of it), the piste is a respectable length too.
Meanwhile down in Saalbach, the apres-party fun consists of skiing from the Hinterhag Alm down the nursery slopes in the dark, whilst weaving a slalom course between the "casualties" lying in the snow, and the drunks tottering their way down (and no doubt all wishing thay hadn't had "one more jagertee".

Probably is the reason! But what we try to do is get there slightly before lunch time to bag the table as its always in demand especially in bad weather

The Hinterhag Alm must be one of the best Après Bars in Europe, if after a session there you can make it back down the slope to the Brolly Bars, try Spitzbub, especially when Spacey, the amiable Geordie is singing, it is a cracking atmosphere. Castellos, in the centre of the village, although a nightclub, so loses some of the charm of the more traditional bars is still rocking for après or later on for a late night shuffle !
If you are on a budget there is a Small supermarket in the square in the pedestrianised area, I think either above or next to the Post office, which does really cheap decent meals.

"Jeden Tag Hinterhag!"
The resident band, the legendary "Flamingos" (essentially vocalist, musical maestro and 'main man' Josef Solar, accompanied by a succession of guitarists, currently Josef Ducek, and assisted by guest vocalists, including Hinterhag owner and local celebrity, Evi Fersterer) has been performing to the animated and adoring throng every night of every winter season for around 30 years.
I first discovered this remarkable place in 1989, spent the next umpteen years raving about it whilst skiing elsewhere (mainly in France), and was absolutely amazed and delighted to find it unchanged when I rediscovered it in the mid-noughties.
Whether or not it's your cup of jagertee, it really is intriguing how the Flamingos maintain their genuine enthusiasm and consistently whip up a fantastic atmosphere every evening, despite the fact they're performing essentially the same set (with occasional additions) and have been doing so since time immemorial.

Hi. We normally stay at the Hotel Lengauerhof (www.lengauerhof.at) at the very top of the valley past Hinterglemm. If you would like to try something other than drinking (!) after skiing, I can highly recommend a sleigh ride from the Lengauerhof's stables opposite the hotel. Take the free ski bus to the last stop at Lengau and cross the road to the stables. The ride goes up through the forest and stops at a lovely hut for drinks. It's really exhilarating flying back down through the trees in the dark. Saalbach-Hinterglemm is a great resort. Hope you have a a great time.

Hi
We're also off to Saalbach in February and cant wait!
OH is complete beginner, she may have a go on Gloucester dry slope before we go but will be looking for lessons for a good part of the week. Easyski seem to have a very good package at 195 euros for 3 full days of lessons and equipment hire for the 6 days. Just wondering if anyone has experienced Easyski and would recommend them, comments much appreciated.

tangledupinblue, From what I've heard, I doubt whether you'd come unstuck with any of Saalbach's ski-schools. No doubt clarky999 and quinton, will be able to advise.

The Panorama live stream doesn't feature the clown, and if you maximise the picture, you won't be disaapointed with what you see! And in daylight you probably won't even notice the clown on the live cam views (which can also be maximised)

I've just downloaded the excellent app for Saalbach Hinterglemm, can't stop playing with it - it's got the restaurants with phone numbers and photos, a list of open lifts, a piste map, the webcams, all sorts - great fun!
It will come in very handy at Christmas when my lot tell me where they're having lunch or apres and I can work out whether I can get there or not (on foot).

RachelQ, In the case of Apres, it's a virtual certainty that you will be able to join them on foot - we often find ourselves in that position with skiers and non-skiers (or novices) wanting to rendezvous for apres-ski. The main venues, such as the Hinterhag Alm, Bauers Sch-Alm, the Spitzbub, the Hexenhaeusl, the Goassstall are all either at street level or easily accessible on foot - with a bit of planning in the case of the Hinterglemm venues which entail getting the bus or a taxi, and also the Hinterhag, which involves either a taxi or a 400m walk up the piste (or the Turm chair lift).

For Hinterhag Alm just have one of the group ski down to meet you at the Turm lift with 2 lift passes and then you can go up with shoes on.

Thank you Tatman's Tours, we're staying in Hinterglemm, and tend to apres there rather than Saalbach, just cos it's easier for us. I don't think I'll be able to make it up to the Goassstall, it's quite a hike up there. We found a really nice place actually in Hinterglemm village last year, no idea what it was called, but it had huge glass doors which made it like an outside-in place, was really buzzing and played cool music .

Yes, I think it was, I remember there's a door to a clubby part just off to the left as you go in, and a long bar to the right, with a dj and dance area right at the end (didn't get that far in though).

If you walk up the path/road towards the Goasstall, there is a door in the hillside that takes you into a tunnel and allows you to get there with the minimum of fuss (and get back when you're a bit tipsy) so to speak.
Get yourself in there, the place is banging - jeeez I'm missing it already
