Not convinced its a good idea to keep starting and moving the vehicle a short distance, especially if it has a diesel particulate filter (euro 5 regs?) as all you do is clog it up and cause possible starting problems for yourself!

Is there much of a freezing difference with a Petrol car to a diesel, travelling to the Aosta Valley in a couple of weeks. |
Diesel can go waxy in the fuel lines, you won't freeze petrol. Like Boredsurfing says keep the battery in top condition, although a petrol engine needs less energy to start it.

Any recomendations for a fuel additive for seriously cold conditions? Spent the week in temps down to -30 last week and the car took some lots of cranking (about 5 or 6 minutes !) to get it to start. Car had a full tank of winer diesel from Albertville, but thats only good down to -15.

Thanks for the info, but reading another thread I think have caused the problem myself. For the 1st time ever I filled.up at the supermarket rather than my usual garage which I think is a Total. Lesson learned, saving a couple of quid.on a tank could.have.cost.a.whole lot more.

TBH, I wouldn't take much notice of 10yr old bulletins, unless, I guess you have a 10 year old motor. Engine technology may have changed.
