Gainz, snowboarding isn't about freedom of expression, it's about the pursuit of total and utter conformity to a stereotype. Just like skateboarding before it.

Gainz, snowboarding is about sliding downhill on a bit of plastic. The marketing victim stuff is to make yet more money for people like Phil Knight, though I'm not sure why the general public should have such a keen interest in doing so at their own expense.

Gainz, I do both.
Read any boarding mag and it's obvious just how conservative it all is, like Olympic gymnastics. When doing such-and-such a grab, hold your arm out at this angle. Gnarly!

And my favourite thing about my snowboarding getup, that I mentioned earlier, is the jacket has little embroidered skier on it

my favourite thing about this thread is the title. Suitable brand names for wearing as opposed (for example) to tossing them nonchalantly on the back shelf of your car or chatting about over a glass of something fashionable.

Basically being a snowboarder is about wearing absurdly oversized clothes, feigning a fashionable contempt for skiers, being possessed of almost no sense of irony whatsoever, and slouching around with a Ministry Of Sound compilation leaking from your lurid pink skull candy headphones whilst slowly dying inside.

I just saw a tasty surfanic jacket in TK MAXX. Is surfanic 'down' with the cool gang?

This Year, I will be mostly wearing the same as last year. Except a few more bits of gaffer tape holding it together.

Gotta remember to repair all the zips/pockets on my old Trespass jacket before venturing out again.
Personally, I think there's nothing worse than a flown in Christmas turkey, decked to the nines with all the latest "cool" gear who can't even ride a drag. Embarrassing.
So my advice is skip the gear, and spend the cash on more lessons/slope time. Most of us are still working our way up the curve, so it's money better spent. Save the swanky labels 'til you can do it justice.
If you're gonna spend, do it mainly on the stuff below your knees.
Probably not what a lot of you want to hear, but I'm old enough not to care................ .

screw the labels get something tht will keep you warm and dry
so for trousers anything that is 10/10 ignore the hype anything under that will leak and let in the wind, neither fun when its cold, jacket you can go a little lower but I would again aim for 10/10
get some comfy boots, decent gloves (gore-tex if you can afford it) and a helmet (warmer than a beanie)
All this from a man who wears Special Blend, 32, Dakine and Oakley (I also have 686 kit as well) and rides a Batleon

Delete Nike, add ACG |
Woo-hoo. Got it right inadvertently. Nike ACG Jacket, TK Maxx reduced to £69 but daft sales assistant looked up wrong price tag as my label was missing and I got it for £43. 2 weeks to go...

I have a big ACG coat, for extra cold days and walking around in the evening. Had it a few years, its been through the wash a few times and is still 100% waterproof and windproof.
My ACG boarding pants were new for this year and have proved to be my favourite pants. I'll probably only take that pair when I go back out in a couple of weeks.

not wanting to start a fashion war here, (or open an old thread too far) but have managed to get hold of an Animal 'Technical' Jacket - how does the quality compare with all the other brands you guys mention ? Am thinking of getting the (not matching - but 'recommended to go with') snow pants out of the sales...
any thoughts?
Cheers
Wayne.

Animal are decent, but like every brand they have low and high end kit.
What's most important is the tech specs: breathability / waterproofness rating, seam taping & construction.
