Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Just an update.
We have made a decision and booked the Les Contamines apartment in L'Enclave for the week 23rd January. We considered the limitations of the LC ski area, however as we are driving down we can explore other areas if need be. We have also pencilled in a day drip to Les Saisies. Fingers crossed for the weather!
Thanks to all for their input.

jasminee, Assuming for a moment that you are driving/hiring a car, we found that the best value supermarket is Ed's in Sallanches. On your way to St Gervais take the first exit signposted Sallanches from the auto route, go past Carrefour on your right (I think this is still the case, there were roadworks going on when we were there which may mean you by-pass it) and Ed's is on your left a little further on in a small sort of sub parade of shops. They have a good selection of fruit and veg, a butchery counter, baker etc. The dry goods selection is a bit like Lidl in that the quality is good but there isn't a vast brand selection. After that Intermarche in Le Fayet would be my next choice.
Supermarket shopping in St Gervais is adequate but quite limited and EXPENSIVE. There is a butcher, two small supermarkets and a boulangerie in the main bit of the town and a larger Casino on the roundabout to Les Contamines out towards the lifts. There is also a traiteur by the ice rink and a Thursday morning market in the town centre. L'Eterle is good for a 'sit down' pizza or there is a takeaway Pizza place between the Les Contas roundabout and the lift.
Restaurant wise apart from L'Eterle we enjoyed Le Royal - nice cosy atmosphere and slightly more varied menu than most. (leave the steak hache stuffed with foie gras alone though!) La Brasserie d'affiches (or something similar) - simple food nicely cooked, and the name escapes me at the moment but there's another nice place down an alley behind the church, specialises in griddled meat, prawns etc. |
Thankyou ! Very much appreciated (:
