snowpatrol, they're actually a size 27 so probably too big for your GF, but the main reason I'm selling is that they are too advanced and high in the leg for me. They're Nordica Olympia SM8...

CEM, What do you think of hand made boots?
I am a bootfitters nightmare - calves of a shot putter, ankles of a ballet dancer, narrow heels and the forefoot of a shire horse!
I ski best with the toe buckle just tight enough to keep the water out, the middle two clamped tight and the top only just fastened.
Just now I'm using Atomic M100's that have a couple of seasons in them yet but am genuinely thinking of Strolz next time. Are they worth the money?
queen bodecia, Apologies for hijacking your thread - good luck with your new boots whatever you do.

I also have an issue with boots and it seems that you guys know a lot so I'll put mine out there for a diagnosis!
I have UK size 8 feet but have zero arch - they're as flat as a pancake and very thin (not in width but height - as a result of no raise in the foot I guess). What this basically amounts to is a long, flat foot which always touches the end of any boot I hire (too the point of excruciating pain at times - black toes and all) but with a boot that is still loose enough for me to lift my foot up and down within the boot. I have never worn a boot that is so snug it is an extension of the leg!
My question is whether this is something that only a specialist boot maker can fix or if there are just some basic insoles I could buy to raise my foot? Does anyone have a similar problem and an ingenious (cheap? ) solution?

Well...
I have new ski boots!!! What's more I spent far too much (£160!!) and they are size 25.5!!! This is what happens if you go to a proper ski shop where they know what they are talking about. Very helpful chap who immediately steered me in the direction of 2 alternative boots judging by my foot/leg shape and size. No point in trying on loads of others he says, they won't be right for you...
So, other than being skinter than a skint thing and a very long way off putting my motorbike back on the road, I am a happy bunny. I guess the next step is to try skiing in them. Maybe a trip to the Snowdome over summer. They do feel very snug at the moment but the heat-fitting thing is lovely...
Thanks to everyone for the advice. I'll officially stop whinging about boots now...
Anyone wanna buy some virtually new Nordica Olympia SM8s in size 27...?

One thing to consider is a Booster strap.
That way you can run the top clip a bit loose for the size-changing calves and still have the liner tight against the leg.

comprex, that's a good point. The boots I've got do seem to have a lower cuff than the Nordicas, so that should help too...
Bones, I did 'sell' the Nordicas on fleabay but the winning bidder didn't pay up. I opened dispute and they promptly deleted their ebay account so they remain unsold at the minute. I think I'd be better off waiting for the start of next season before trying again, although the money would be nice right now...

Scarpa, hmm, I might get a bit stinky on a diet like that...
spyderjon, I've given up locally. Decathlon is OK for clothing and stuff but no-one there has a clue about anything, probably because they have to sell everything from horse-riding hats to water wings. As for Two Seasons, great place if you want to buy an Animal backpack...
I think the only 'proper' ski shops I'd encountered were Snow & Rock in Brum & EB at Tamworth. However this place in Chelmsford is a big independent and has loads of everything. I can see I'm going to have to ban myself from going there whenever I visit my brother. I'll end up bankrupt!

In my shiny new boot excitement, I forgot to say what they are: Salomon Idol 8. Some bright spark will probably pop up and say they're rubbish but since they don't hurt (yet!) I don't care. They seem a whole stack better than the Dolomite ones in Decathlon from what I can tell but for £160 they blimmin' well should be!

Chelmsford seems an OK place. Very affluent south, not all boarded-up shops like round my way...

queen bodecia, Yeah, it's OK (but then I'm from Sunderland ). there are, unfortunatley quite a few boarded up shops just outside of the centre, but at the mo' it seems to be holding up overall.

I've no idea how my brother has afforded a £250k house aged 21!! Jeez, I can only just manage my £90k mortgage and I'm twice his age. Clearly I went into the wrong business...

Enormous knee-trembling style debt? Unless of course he takes home 100k so was able to pay off his student debts and save for a deposit so not as to over-extend himself by going for more than 3x salary and of course put a bit away in savings.

I've had good luck selling things before Christmas, about the second week in December. I put a load of old tat on last year and got more than I would have thought for quite a few things. I can only pity the poor people who may have got my old tat for Christmas

queen bodecia,
I've got the Salomon Idol 9 boot. Got them last season and although they hurt my calves a bit at first (but only when I was walking in them) they are great now! Really comfy to wear all day long and no black toes ever! Hope your's are good too!

Alexandra, I think he takes home twice what I do and his mortgage payments are twice mine. So I can see why he drives a knackered old car...
lynseyf, that's the plan. I need to pay the balance of my holiday straight after Christmas so I'm sure a few extra pennies then won't go amiss...
jezzy, that's good to hear. I was slightly concerned that it's labelled as an intermediate to advanced boot as that was part of the problem with the other boots. But the chap assured me I didn't want budget beginner boots (probably on commission!). I think people expect me to be a better skier as I've done 30+ weeks in 22 years. But I really am a basic recreational skier...
Still, whatever happens I'm keeping these boots. I will have to see how the liners pad out as they are extremely snug round the toes and over the 'bridge' of my foot at the moment. But I've only walked around in the for 10 minutes (without undue pain I might add). They might well need to a trip to CEM or one of the Zookeepers if the extreme snugness continues...

queen bodecia,
I wish you every success with the new boots! After returning from my first ski holiday last year and enduring exquisite pain in the ball of my foot in hire boots when standing on lifts or walking (fortunately not while skiing) I decided I needed my own boots. The ball of the foot pain, that I sometimes experience in other footwear, can apparently from what I've read, be to do with age and the 'pad' of the foot becoming thinner (I'm sure that can't be right!). Anyway, I explained all this to the assistant in the shop, had my feet, legs and stance examined and spent 3 or 4 hours, as in your case trying on only 3 pairs of boots, and eventually being fitted with ladies Salomon Divine 10 boots and custom footbeds, at a cost of about £250 but worth every penny. Also, I can go back at any time if I need adjustments apparently and I imagine this will be the same in your case. I'm sure you won't regret the outlay.

Iski, I certainly hope not. I'd never experienced ski boot pain before until the episode with the Nordicas, although I can't say I've ever found ski boots to be comfortable items of footwear. However, compared to killer heels, ski boots are like having my feet in a foot spa! And I still wear them from time to time (god bless 'Party Feet'!)...
Apparently according to the boot seller chap yesterday (although helpful and quite knowledgeable, I don't think he was quite in the same bootfitter league as CEM and the Zookeepers) my feet aren't really that out of the ordinary. My toes are long and my heels are narrow, but other than that my feet are a normal width with a normal arch and he didn't even seem to think my calves were big! Maybe he was just being polite. Snigger...
Glad you've had success with your boots. I saw the Salomon Divine ones too and they looked rather snazzy. Apparently not quite right for me, nor were the nice silver Atomic ones with lilac bits on. The other boots I tried were Technica Attiva, which seemed OK too but slightly longer in the shell check test and with a higher cuff which is why I plumped for the Salomons. They're a natty black and gold design too. When did ski boots get so fashionable...?
