Villz, are you finished with lectures now then as i'm at sheffield, not hallam, and i don't finish for another two weeks. And then were of to val thorens on the 3rd of januray by which time the whole of 3v will be open and i will be shredding some serious powder, although with the conditions now you should be too. Topsmoke, if you went to a decent uni they'd have done the maths and chosen a month when the snow is on average much deeper and the 3v links are open. i hope it rains on you. Actually i don't cause that will spoil the snow for me.

There seem to be two three valley snow report threads, so I'll duplicate this in case you miss it on the other one....
Meribel opened yesterday - main lifts open are Saulire, Tougnette, Pas de Lac. Yesterday was poor visibility, and snowing down to about 500m. Fresh powder, to mid shin, on most pistes. Today was glorious, not a cloud in the sky, more like March than December. Connections to Couchevel open, but not the Belleville valley. Loads of fresh snow, empty pistes, very much how I always imagined heaven to be.

Why do we need two different threads for 3 Valleys. Could admin either combine them or change the titles of threads to be names of different resorts in each of the other two valleys. VT amd LM are now covered (third/fourth valley). Hope others agree this would be a much easier way to know which thread to read

I skiied in Meribel on Saturday (where it snowed almost all day) and Sunday (clear blue sky and sunshine) and the snow was awesome especially at the top of the Saulire. Perfect start to the season really in the 3V

Skinned up Mont Du Fond today, conditions were good early on, got quite overcast towards lunchtime. Looking over to Orelle the snow cover looked good, same for Le Men... A few little bits of snow fell high up in VT, cloud looks fairly thick right now, so hopefully the snow comes tonight.... Some fo the off piste areas I skied yesterday are looking very thin today, the winds must have got up last night...

So, overnight on Tuesday 9th \ Wednesday 10th , did more snow arrive. Forecast was for heavy snow. How did that pan out?

Its been snowing all night, fairly heavy at resort level, lets hope the wind died down higher up, otherwise all of the snow will have blown down to Le Men! I was going to skin up the Glacier du Thorens today, but looking at the visibility, its probably not a good idea....

rob@rar, I wish!! Just out here in VT until the 20th...
It's still snowing, visibility is poor at best! Right now I can barely see the Peclet gondola, or the Cascades chairlift, and I’m in an apartment directly opposite… Very little wind in Resort, quite windy near the Glacer du Thorens (Col Piste).

Thanks Rob, see below....
It’s still snowing in VT, although it did stop yesterday evening, but I woke to cloud and snow again. It has been brighter today, and even saw a little bit of blue sky around lunch-1pm, skied a couple of off piste runs this morning, but the visibility was just too poor, with very few points of reference, so stuck to pistes for a while… As the visibility improved I decided to skin up Mont du Fond again (Glacer du Thorens still in the cloud), unfortunately, once I had a nosey into the Orelle valley the cloud closed in again, so decided to play it safe and ski down the blue (reds not pisted and no markers and no question of going off piste in the cloud)…
The forecast looks like the snow is here until the weekend, which is a little frustrating with all this soft powder around, but its just too sketchy going off piste when you can barely seen where you are going!

Any idea what the forecast is like for next week? I'm due out to Meribel on Saturday and currently have all limbs and digits crossed

cheery update from www.merinet.com
We’re still being deluged with snow in Méribel and the skiing conditions are brilliant at all altitudes. The snow just keeps on coming and each day a fresh layer of soft powdery snow is added to the already perfect pistes. The resort is also at its most beautiful: tree boughs are laden down, chalet roofs are thatched and the cars, benches and bins are thickly padded.... If you are coming to ski in the Three Valleys next week you should be in for a real treat: more lifts and pistes will open, together with the links to Val Thorens and les Menuires and the pistes should still be quiet. The snow on piste is in fantastic condition, and off-piste there should be some great untracked areas when new lifts start to open up. Just please do watch out for rocks off-piste – this early in the season there are lots still lurking just under the surfa

Wow! Looks gorgeous..
One more day to wait (well two, as I arrive on Sunday). Think I'll be staying on the piste, I really don't fancy being caught in an avalanche.
The weather forecasts are predicting a big dump for Sunday night into Monday (20 cms) . Then I'd like it to stop please!
Courchevel and Meribel are looking beautiful on the webcams today.
