firebug, disgusting in my view. I'd be furious because some of these bags are a good £100 worth sometimes upto £160 depending on the make so how dare they damage them on purpose. Besides, as long as it's under the luggage weight allowance then that's good enough. Even when your bags do get damaged by accident and contact the airline to complain it seems you can whistle half the time for a replacement free of charge.
Yeah I seem to remember a lot of people getting charged on the spot for heavy luggage despite no one complaining at the check in desk in the UK. I'd honestly never fly there ever again, I'd rather fly to Geneva and have a longer transfer every time. I don't think the airport is big enough to cope with the people going through it in the winter months.
Just glad I'm driving this time so don't have to worry about the baggage people wrecking everything. Just have to make sure I don't get anything nicked out of the car while I'm having a coffee or something at the services, that's the trouble when the back seats are down in the car and all the luggage etc is on show. I was just gonna load my skis and board in without covers to start with but decided to get this big roller case for them. Probably better to have them in that so it's not an easy steal to thieves seeing a tasty pair of skis and board on display to nick.....it will probably be alright though.
Not sure if there's a lot of that in service stations in France or not.

Incidentally, just a silly thought, has anyone checked in one of these big roller board bags with all their gear in and the board and boots as 1 item of hold luggage without paying ski carriage with Easyjet and got away with it? If it weighs less than 20kgs I mean as per the hold bag allowance. Then would they not let it on as a hold bag rather than paying for sports equipment carriage? I suppose they will know there is a board in there because it's a long bag rather than one that looks like a suitcase. |
skis/board must be checked in as ski equipment, irrespective of weight

I was hopping mad but there's nothing you can do really. This was on a flight from London to Seattle and we had to get the thing first to Vancouver and then Whistler with no handles!! The airports say they can't be sure where it happened and you just end up in bureaucratic nightmare. I guess we could maybe have claimed on insurance.
On the plus side it's extremely unlikely anyone will nick it from your car, they'd still be struggling when you got back from your croissants...

LMAO
Yes definitely a deterrent to thieves having the stuff in the High Roller! That's one of the reasons I bought it even though really I don't need a cover of any kind for the board for this trip as can just bung it in the car. It's more likey to get pinched I think if it's actually on display in the car and the thief can get away quickly with just the board under their arm.

So is the baggage allowance for sports equipment but no hold baggage 12kg or 32kg? There doesn't seem to be a definite answer in here, and the easyJet website is pretty ambiguous.

i booked with crystal and they told me 12kg limit!!
monarch whos weight is 20kg
easyjet allow upto 32kg in board bag but with your hold bag/suitcase you cant go over 32kg
if you want extra on top of that you will have to pay for it and can have an allownace of upto 50kg
it works out at 3kg for £36
its £16.50 per flight or £23 if booked at the airport
ba include the board bag so no extra charges and the weight was 25kg

We take two bags the 165 high roller with two boards and all the gear always bellow 25kg never had any problems, some times get away with the ski carrage as well,
then a bag with a few other bits in it
oh and as for transport to the airport i put this on my car

for the little boarders you might consider getting one of those golf cover bags as an alternative - shorter but wider so still does the job !!!

Just checking this thread out before buying a bag - I hadn't thought about getting it in the car
Got charged an excess the other year for putting 2 pairs of ski boots in our hold luggage rather than boot bags.
I'm trying to minimise number of things to drag around the airport, which gets more and more difficult when you've got 2 kids.
I was thinking something along the lines of a High Roller for 1 pair of skis, 2 pairs of Ski Boots & Ski gear.
I've got a large Dakine split convertible bag which is great. 1 bag to drag around but is always over the 30kg single item limit so I split when I check in (2 pieces - 20kg & 15kg)

Pete1909, if you've got two kids then - presuming they're taking up the back seats? - getting it in the car is definitely worth thinking about. Used the high roller for the last few trips and you could easily fit the stuff you mention in, but we've only managed to get it into cars with the back seats folded down and the bag protruding some considerable way between the two front seats. It is without doubt a LONG bag.

snojito, haha Swirly, got it in one ! It was THE most uncomfortable journey ever. We also got pulled over by the police as well (4am) and they said nothing about the way the car was overloaded, they just thought we had nicked the car as it had private plates !!!
like u would steal a car and then fill it with odd shaped suitcases for a joyride at 4am for a laugh
