Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Saas-Fee in April can be great. They start to close some of the lifts around the middle of April, but the main ones keep going until the beginning of May. So Saas Grund and Saas Almagel are unlikely to be running after the middle of April, also Plattjen and possibly Spielboden/Langfluh at Saas-Fee. In Saas-Fee it can get very soft in the afternoons below the middle station at Morenia, but above that (and you have over 1000m vertical) all will be fine.

Never stayed in Saas Grund, but been through it on the bus and on foot many times. It is not a pretty alpine skiing village, but a mixture of picturesque chalets and distinctly functional buildings. From what I've seen there isn't much to do in the village itself, but then maybe Oak Hall know this and put on their own amusements.

We found a cheapish option for anyone who wants to do the day trip to zermatt!
You go to the Alpin express and pay 20 chf and choose your day to Z..and they hand over a blue slip. When you go to the bus station they check the blue slip, and give you a wopping 70% off your bus/train ticket! 35CHF instead of almost 90!! When you get to Z the train puts you off directly over the road from the gornergrat railway that scoots you up the mountain in 20 mins. Dont forget to hand in that blue ticket and get your day pass here. We made the most of it, we were on the 7.20 bus out of saas fee and in Z for 9.15. Made it to apres ski and a meal at the Post and got the last train back at 8.30 ish. The TO's wanted at least 70 CHF and were returning at 4.30 !! None of the reps told us about this..they are into selling the day trip.
