Frosty the Snowman, Nick L and M&D, thanks guys.
Just back to the chalet after a pizza in the Club de Sports and it is snowing outside. Only about one cm so far but there are several hours until skiing resumes. So tomorrow may be a powder day.

Thursday 31 - Only about one cm of snow overnight and the same at altitude. Sunny day but started cold. We skied the Grand Vallon, Pays Desert from top of Montets and Col Pers. Generally hard packed and supporting snow.everywhere. Almost nowhere did we break through. Had a few places where there was a dusting of soft snow or where the surface had softened. In places the hard packed snow means don't fall as along slide is likely and there are nasty rocks or drops. it is comforting when the guide says, of some slopes, that falling is not allowed.

Friday 1 Feb - Hurt my little finger today. Cloudy start with top of Belvarde in cloud. Snowed gently all morning but just before 1pm the sun came out. We skied from Toviere, the long traverse around the east and north is tricky when the light is poor and the clouds freeze onto the sun glasses. Above the Lavachet wall we found up to 20 cm of soft, but wet, snow. Then we went down a wide and moderately steep couloir (easily seen from Rhododendron piste in Tignes) between two large areas of rocks. I did three or four turns at the top and then, just inside the top of the rocks, something went wrong. I went over the front of my skis and slide head first. Both skis soon came off and I lost my poles soon after. I am told that I slid for 250 metres and flopped head over heels like a rag doll. I remember trying to slow down, to put a hand or leg into the snow, but I was unable to stop for a long time. When I did stop I was unhurt, my hat and glasses were still on, the handle of my ABS bag has not been pulled by the snow. I was standing in snow that was at least mid thigh deep. All in all I was fine, but a little later I realised my little finger had a sprain. Next we skied the Sachette, it was good but did not have the adrenaline rush of the Lavachet.

I have had four good weeks skiing in Val d'Isere this winter, two in December and two just finished. I do not plan any more skiing this winter. Friday was my last day of skiing, so this is the last of my notes about my skiing for this winter. On Saturday we left the resort with fifteen cm of new snow in the car park.
My accommodation was http://www.finlayski.com in Chalet Ruby, the same place as in several previous holidays. The Chalet has a great location for access to the slopes and the lifts. Finlays provide a good holiday package. Most of my skiing was with the off piste specialists at http://www.alpineexperience.com who guided us to some great locations with superb mountain scenery and, mostly, good snow.

Adrian,
Great reports.
For anyone about to go The piste conditions were excellent last week. Off piste varied, with high winds causing a lot of packing and scouring. Still good snow in sheltered areas though.

maybe just getting paraniod and clutching at anything for some fresh snow in Val D'Isere. We arrive on the 9th of March. Looking at Metcheck , the graph axis measurement for anticipated snowfall over the last week or so has been in MM's , it has now changed to CM's , although still only 1 to 2cm of snow predicted up until the 4th of March , are they expecting a big dump of snow from the 4th of March when the new model is run so the axis measurment has changed , hope so. As we have two days guided off piste booked and really hoping for some fresh snow

offpisteskiing, great pictures. Would love to see some of people on the entry traverse. As I recall it is one of those places where the vertigo can really grab your attention.
Ummm! Have I got the names mixed up? I am thinking of a short couloir close to the Grand Pre chair. Is "Pisteurs" between the Tour and the Face de Charvet? I have done the one by Grand Pre but not the other.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

First post!...I've been lurking a fair while. In any case, t1twenty; I believe you may be referring to moniteurs (spelling?) couloir.
Great pics offpisteskiing, though I am a little disturbed by the apparent lack of avalanche kit!

Athers well to SH
...correct it is called Moniteurs couloir definite NFZ (No Fall Zone) on the traverse into that one - when you get in there there is LOVELY snow - nearly always. It is just off to the left of Grand Pre chair.
Further down is Pisteurs couloir... tour is around the corner.
