I have converted prices from the point of view of those with GB £ using a credit card since most people on this site are from GB. (ie I have not converted eg dollars direct to Euro).
So what I actually did for eg prices in Dollars, was to convert pound to dollar and pound to Euro and then us the ratio as my multiplier to convert dollar to Euro.
On this basis to convert to Euros:
GB £ multiply by 1.46
Swiss Franks divide by 1.68
US $ divide by 1.45
Canadian $ divide by 1.34

I know this i was just pointing out the fact its rediculously expensive compared to the price of ski hills, especially since there is only a very short run!

But for that comparison to be valid, it has to be a comparison with the hourly lift pass rate for the reorts - which most don't do.
Or compare the monthly price at Xscape (I can't find any details of those online) with a monthly resort pass.

Dragging the subject back on track....
Arlberg, Austria - Lech, Zurs, St. Anton, etc
€199/€173/€119 - adult/16-18/under 16
In this area, anyone over 65 pays the 16-18 price, and anyone over 75 gets a season ticket for €10! Must remember this for the next 35 years...

Kitzbuehel, Austria
€180/€144/€90
Over 60s get a pass at the child rate on Tuesdays, and 80+ can get a season pass for €15

That is an outrageous price.
I cannot believe they don't sell a season or yearly pass, to reduce the cost and attract regular skiers.

A quick glance says the average Alpine liftpass is around €180 / US$260.
A Rockies liftpass is about US$320.
North America, without discounts, at current forex rates, is roughly 10 - 30% pricier than the Alps.

Actually, all prices in my initial post have been shown in €, so the American resorts are much more expensive that European ones.

Ray Zorro, Oh OK - you'll see I have added all the other new ones, except Ronald's one above.
If you prefer to just have one list at the start you could add them to yours and then I'll delete my post.
Let me know.
PS if you don't agree with my Euro conversion method you'll have to do some converting. It seemed the fairest to me, but it's debateable.

Geilo (Norway) - €175 (I think, coverting krone to £ to €)
Font Romeu (Pyrenees) - €142
St Sorlin D'Arves - €136 (or €169 for Les Sybelles area)
Foppola (Italy) - €114

Daft question, but why are they converted into €. Surely if some are going to be converted, then it would be better to convert them all into £.

Well that way only a few needed converting and most could be left in the currency they actuallt were. But just divide by 1.46 (or whatever it is today) to get to £. We could have the original currency figure for those not in Euros in brackets beside.

Elizabeth B, Yes, but in the case of most of the European resorts, Euros is what you will actually pay, so that is a fixed price, whil any converted price will vary according to the exchange rate.
It is best to convert evrything to the most common actual currency, so that as few as possible are variable.

There seem to be a lot I have found at around €110-130 in the small to medium sized French ski stations
Cheapest I can find for a proper ski area in the major alpine countries
Termignon
Adult(12-60) 6 Days €95 but €87.50 if bought via the internet
Child (5-12) 6 Days €76 but €70 if bought over the internet.
|
|
|

Termignon isn't really big enough for a holiday - It is one of the smaller resorts in the same valley as Val Cenis - worth a visit though.

snowball,
You get a free day in Val Cenis on the pass, I have had a week based at Bonneval just up the road which is about the same size and the same price though without the internet discount and really enjoyed that. It is pretty small I agree but I suspect in my first two or three weeks on skis I did not cover a larger area than is available there. They were in Soll Bormio and Avoriaz.
Alternatively you can get a five day pass which covers the whole Maurienne valley for €78 but they have to be used in different resorts.
