Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Yes, I'm not aware that fire doors have been installed. It would be very complex because the tunnel is entered (as with Kaprun) after an open section on a viaduct.

The much older Sunnegga Express at Zermatt has an underground entrance with large automatic doors that you pass through before getting on to the train platform, so I guess it has always been protected from an up-draught. The one at Tignes is probably similarly safe.

The real issue is provision of fire extinguishers and the ability to escape if the train stops. I think this is where the various underground funiculars have been improved since this disaster. The Kaprun funicular has, of course, never reopened and has been replaced by a gondola to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier.
