Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Pah. He owes his life to SkiPlan's staff, who went out and found him. The Gendarmes were (quite reasonably) unconvinced that he could possibly be where he said he was. Until we told them he was definitely there, they were sending the nightshift pisteurs onto the glacier to look for tracks, assuming that he was still up there somewhere.
This isn't any kind of criticism of the Gendarmerie - the fact that he managed to get so far down the hill is frankly unbelievable.

The incident is almost a carbon copy of a similar incident that occured last year on the 10th of March so maybe the Gendarmerie should be less sceptical. In that case a Dutch tourist got lost in bad weather up on the glacier at les Deux Alpes, descended 500 meters in a series of falls down cliffs and managed to attract the attention of a passing motorist on the road using the flash from his camera. That is just one incident amongst many - an acquaintance of mine died in similar circumstances with his mistress in the early 90s.
That said, it is very difficult to do much at night.

Lizzard - who would you want playing you? and your staff - ditto? What about some love interest? (hunky gendarmes?)
Seriously though - the guy appears to have gone off-piste in Risk 4 conditions, on his own(?) and without a guide. He may have to pay for the resuce as his Insurance Co probably won't cover. He's a very lucky man, but what will stop people doing this to themselves (and risking the lives of others?)
