It's the line directly down the hill. If you were to roll a ball down the piste it would follow the fall line.

[ b].RE read this
I had a lesson on moguls last year in Courchevel. I was going up on the chairlift and the instructor asked what I wanted to concentrate on. I was terrified of bumps, but knew I needed to learn to ski them, so I said moguls. Mr DS was amazed I'd had the nerve to say it. My usual bumps technique was to traverse rather wobbly until I found a nice bump to try and turn on, and then turn, and go off across the slope again.
We started off with the correct technique on the flat (harder than on bumps, as it turned out), and then headed to a bumpy red. At the end of the lesson I was skiing down a bumpy red, straight down the fall line, none of the "ooh, I'll just ski over to that bump there, it looks a bit easier to turn on!", and I was astonished I'd done it.
The next day the weather changed, it was +16C and the mountain turned into mogulled slush. There were bodies, ski poles, goggles detached skis and inverted skiers everywhere we looked (as well as upside-down snowboarders). I just did what I was taught and came down a pretty bumpy black and then a red with absolutely huge moguls on it (harder than the black, IMO). Straight down the fall-line, right way up, no problem! I still need to improve, coz I do tend to stem turn a bit when I lose concentration. But given that I was one of the few who came down both slopes still attached to my skis (and my bindings are set on 3), I was quite pleased.
rob@rar[/b], hyweljenkins, try my 147's - they are very easy on them They are, of course, even easier on Snowblades

I think I'm having a blonde moment. Although you're writing in English my ability to comprehend what you're saying has abandoned me, hopefully only temporarily. Sorry about this

Yes thank you. As you asked what the fall line was a little earlier was I right to assume that you didn't understand what it meant?
Instead of beating around the bush with cryptic comments why don't you get off your chest what ever is bothering you? You might feel much better for it.

Liar here, I guess. I can carve down a mogul field. But, I don't often exclusively carve down a mogul field. I don't carve all the time, tho.

What an interesting comment. I must have a nose like pinnochio.
I suggest a re-visitation of the definition of carve.

halfhand, I think you will find that rather than comparing size of balls, ssh and I were challenging the assertion that anyone who carves in moguls is a liar. A fairly bold claim, I'm sure you'll agree.
Now, if you'd just release that firm grip you've got from that end of the stick.............

I have seen peeps carve down a mogul field, but it does depend to a degree on how far apart the moguls are. We were taught to do this on long skis in my Grade 1 training. It's not my preferred mogul technique but then I'm old and timid! BTW a jolly exercise we were given on my last BASI revalidation was to ski a mogul field not turning our feet more than 20deg out of the fall line - now that's hard! I could have sworn I'd done it, but was told I hadn't when I got the the bottom of the pitch - I felt I was going like a rocket though.

easiski, I do not respect most ski instrutors because most of them are jumped up little kid's that have not got the time to learn the basics. Yes there are some great one's out there, but for every good one there are ten bad ones, when it comes to brit's. I still Question instructors that say they can Carve all the way down a mogul field.

skiingfool, have a little look here - smallish ones but they always look smaller from downhill and the guy's hardly breaking a sweat and I'd expect wouldn't have too much problem with significantly bigger ones

I think it's quite difficult to get to BASI 1 without learning the basics. How many Brit instructors have you been taught by?

slikedges, Nice bit of skiing, but carving? As soon as it starts looking even a bit like a mogul field he seems to spend a lot of time without his skis even on the snow - last I heard carving left two distibct clean continuous tracks.

Presumably when he's changing direction his skis are on the snow?
