From Slovenia. Albeit equipt with all the gear (abs backpack, transceiver, showel, probe) he broke several rules:
- never go alone (especially in these conditions)
- wait for two, three days so the fresh snow can settle
- it's the first snowfall, which fall on the very warm surface -> ideal for huge avalanches.
- huge amount of snow coupled with stormy winds -> wind slabs
They said that the accident is not related to the avalanche, but mountain rescuers found the guy buried two meters under the snow.

As skiers and lovers of the white stuff the images of the flooding and devastation were food for uncomfortable thinking.
Poland particularly with problem areas.

@Alastair Pink, Some of the Bavarian Hütten are completely snowed in. Schachenhaus* and Meilerhütte are cut off from the world!
*Where mad King Ludwig built a palace on the side of a mountain. Well worth a visit either walking up from Garmisch/Reintal or via MTB from Mittenwald.

Looks like the glacier off the back of the Aiguille du Midi above Chamonix

@luigi, it very much does, a couple of climbers fell into a crevasse around there the other day
I read about the ski tourer death @holidayloverxx, seems like the guy broke through a corniche and the debris buried him under 2 meters of snow. Located using his avalanche beacon by the rescue services the next day. Possible that he couldn't see exactly where he was due to the visibility and strayed out too far.
