Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@sugarmoma666, sure but what I was getting at with young kids is what @Origen, points out below. The PJ factor for lolling about in the morning or at any time.

Belambra has better "communal" facilities and arrangements than many hotels and their all- inclusive tariffs are competitive for skiers. Not as relaxed as your own catered chalet but with many places booked for half term already compromise is going to be the order of the day. There are very few self catering places for more than 10 and some require sleeping on sofa beds in the lounge. Hopeless for a big mixed family group where the people forced to go to bed last have kids and "first lift" skiers waking them at crack of dawn.

Ski In/out I was just thinking would be good with the kids to save buses etc but would be open to it for the right overall resort.

There's quite a lot of space between "ski-in/out" and "need to take a bus". Most obviously places that are a short (50-200m) walk to the lifts but there are also chalets that offer a minibus shuttle. I would look at larger chalets in Montchavin/Les Coches/Vallandy/La Tania. I know you said the group would prefer half term but you'll find a lot more choice for a lot cheaper if you can go in the Easter school holidays instead. Don't underestimate the traffic/transfer time at half term either.

Think this is pretty spot on. Close to the lifts /ski school meeting place is actually more relevant with young kids. You actually need to be quite careful about ski in ski out with beginner children as they can't actually ski and it may be a bit of a hike to the lifts.

@T Bar is right and though the point has been made several times, worth repeating that ski in/ out rarely works for beginners. I remember one place in Mottaret where it was a case of teetering round a very sketchy traverse to ski out and playing dodgems with the bushes skiing back in. And your non skiers will want access on a cleared and not too steep road or path.

Though that place in Meribel was brilliant for kids tobogganing on black poly bags every evening till bed time whilst the adults drank wine.
