Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Which snowsure resort near Geneva at Easter?

I am always surprised that Sion doesn't get a few flights. The runway seems to be long enough to take a 737 (based on a quick google).
Sion [SIR] was previously shared with the Swiss Air Force, so it was difficult to set a dependable schedule as they had first call on use. But it’s now fully commercial. We’ve flown in/out of Sion on a regular TO holiday in Verbier - you can piggy-back as flight-only on a TO flight if you’re self-organising a trip, although the spaces seem to go quickly and you have to do some research to find which TOs are using it. If you go LGW-GVA you’ll sometimes see these Sion flights on the departure board. I read that private jets are increasingly using Sion in preference to Geneva as its smaller and easier to get through, and suits if you’re destination is the eastern end of Lac Léman or the Vaud and Valais, or Zermatt. However, it apparently doesn’t have the full repertoire of flying aids, so may divert flights back to Geneva if the conditions are adverse.

That said, take-off is a hoot: it looks like the mountainside is right next to you if you’re on the right side of the ‘plane and on our flight, the captain announced that passengers should not be alarmed if if looked like we were too close. Cue everyone looking out the right side and some being spooked. We loved the experience: being so much smaller, the whole disembarkation and boarding process was way more relaxed than at Geneva, and as close to a private jet experience as we’re ever likely to get.

Swiss do fly to Sion in the winter, from London City (or have done in the past) but as you might expect, prices are steep. A few years ago, someone started up scheduled, large plane winter flights to Sion from London, but I don’t think it lasted more than one or two years. This was before the Swiss Air Force stopped using the airport, so that may have been a factor. But for resorts like Crans-Montana, Verbier and Zermatt, it would be ideal.
