@under a new name, thank you mate. I was surprised to be honest but decision was clear apparently. Rupture was there on MRI.
Who knows? Will work hard and if I get through the next six weeks apparently back to normal. Knees, shoulders and backs are crazy.

Mine was a full rupture but I could keep on skiing, even straight after. I was hyper extended on a turn I had to make in Spring snow and felt the pop. It felt loose afterwards and I was pretty sure it was the ACL being the 2nd time. I don’t think there was meniscus damage - perhaps this is what causes the pain?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@kesone1, very good and prompted me to find this https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36738386/ which was intriguing.
I know that when I saw my surgeon just before my op (so ~10 weeks after injury) I still had no evidence of any ACL resistance.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@BobinCH, I also apparently had no meniscus damage (luckily). But, believe me, there was pain!!!
I think that the usual accompanying MCL damage often accounts for a lot of the pain. That and, certainly in my case, the fact that innards of your knee joint have been ripped apart and it's filled with blood, irritated, swollen, inflamed and mad as hell My physio was muttering about bone-on-bone bruising too; though doctors never mentioned that.
Never quite worked out how I managed to do so much damage that it took me 6+ months even to be able to flex enough to kneel (very uncomfortably), yet didn't (thankfully) get a fracture, meniscus or other damage, and always could stand, walk and balance. An awful long time to de-swell and de-stiffen, for some reason.
Although balance, to be fair, is one of the subtle yet important things which I have permanently lost, in terms of proprioception I guess; slippery rocks, ice and the like. Probably more very quick, fine positional adjustment is what I've really lost. Plus just confidence and most distinctly not wanting it to hurt again.

MCL hurts like buggery. 11 years after mine got stretched it can still hurt now...nothing from the fact I have little meniscus and a tibial plateau plate

Agreed. ACL feels like a lot of pressure but the MCL injury was a real 'tweaker'!
