Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@rjs, Thanks for clarifying, so it sounds like a good club skier rather than entering the national setup.

@Henwc, My reading of the AQA document is that it doesn't require someone to be at national team level, just that they need to be able to demonstrate that they know what they are doing in two properly organized races. I don't think that someone would be able to get to this standard though unless they had been doing race training for a few years.

I do think that a student would need to have been working with an experienced coach for some time, typically in a club context, for them to be able to meet the performance analysys assessment requirements when they are looking back at their own performance during the two races.
I think this is the correct reading of the AQA criteria. I’ve done a bunch of GCSE assessments and three or four A level assessments, but not since the last A Level specification revision, which moved the non-examined assessment much more towards a full competitive environment. As @rjs said, you don’t need to be at a national squad level to get top marks but IMO you won’t reach top marks just by being a good holiday skier who has had lots of family holidays since a young age. The criteria specify two different disciplines in skiing, from the list of Slalom, GS, SuperG or Downhill, with timing and the presence of other competitors. Realistically you are only going to satisfy those requirements within the context of a race club.

Possibly BASI 1 would be an option + a some race videos. Hard for an assessor to argue a lack of competence if you have an instruction qualification.

This seems fair enough. That might amount to 14 years of one-week holidays, probably more than half those without any coaching/training at all. You wouldn't expect somebody who had spent 14 weeks playing soccer, or learning gymnastics, or sailing, to be able to achieve top marks, however naturally talented they were.
