Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@mountainaddict, no beans to spill... sorry! Only ever been to Grindelwald and the Jungfrau railway for climbing. Not been to Wengen for skiing. Being Irish, I was just amused at the OP's username which translates roughly as "women of the snow". Not too many Gaelic usernames about....

Just saw this and started typing up some advice because I taught my other half how to ski in Wengen two years ago. It’s a great place to start - pretty car-free town, very suitable progression slopes (rope tow, button top of gondola, kleine scheidegg to Wengen & Grindelwald). Then read the whole thread and realised you’ve already been! Glad you found it as enjoyable as we did.

Sorry - I totally missed this reply, but yes we loved it for all the reasons you said. Really looking forward to going back this winter (if it’s not too early on the 1st Sept to start thinking about snow!)

I couldn’t find a snow-related name that wasn’t already in use - but for sure not too many Mna Sneachta here Very Happy

So folks - if I’m not too early to ask this question on the 1st of September - what’s the snow usually like in Wengen & higher up in late December/early January? I know nothing is ever certain but - on an average year? Thanks.

@Mnasneachta, as you say nothing is ever certain, but usually at that time of year the snow up around the Kleine Scheidegg area is very good. I'd recommend continuing with some of your ski lessons, maybe lessons in the morning and practising what you've learned in the afternoon. The blue run from Kleine Scheidegg down to Brandegg is a nice run which you should aim to do on your next visit (if you haven't already done so).

I think you said you stayed at the Alpenrose previously, it's a great hotel with excellent food. However if you should be looking for somewhere a bit cheaper I can highly recommend the Hotel Edelweiss, I've stayed there for quite a few years now and it's very good value for money (for Switzerland). They do offer both B&B and Half Board options, the evening meal option is a set 4 course meal (although they offer veggie options and you can also opt for a cheese fondue instead if you give them notice in the morning), and it's good value at I think 35CHF extra per person.

Thank you! Unfortunately it’s booked up for when we want to go after Christmas.

We’ll definitely take lessons again. Other half was way more confident than me but think we’ll both need the lessons. I did manage to get to the bottom of the blue slope from Mannlichen but to say I was terrified is an understatement Very Happy
