Quick one, does the Pyrenees generally rely on a good snow depth to get them through the later months of the ski season or does it rely on constant snowing?

Looks like the next significant snowfall for the Pyrenees will be New Year eve and day.

Unfortunately the forecast has changed as there is no snow for next week now

I think @hammerite is there at the moment.
Looks like a lot of red and black slopes are closed and there is currently only 20 - 30 cm of snow, but that's going by what I see on the Grandvalira app and webcams

@Maort, I skied all of the Grandvalira over the past couple of days. Limited pistes open but what is open is skiing well. A couple of pistes have the odd bare/stoney patch but they’re easy to avoid. It’s not been busy either. I think most Spanish guests have decided not to bother.
Not going out today. Going to do a night tour tonight in Arcalis instead.

Webcams for Grandvalira are not showing any new snow, think it might be either a joke or back to another date when it happened.

Yeah, I think this guy has shared a memory from a few years ago.
I did a night tour last night. Big moon, lots of stars and a cloudless sky. Woke up this morning and it’s gone overcast but no snow threat really. There may be a couple of cm on Sunday but not much more. The next significant snowfall forecast is for the end of next week which is so far away that it’s unlikely to be accurate.

mrvinegar if it had dumped like that in La Molina, I'd be staying overnight with friends just over the border after an early start on the road and long day on the mountain.
It's just sarcasm or trolling, hence the references to innocentada (April Fool) in the comments on those links.

You’re right , weird joke I guess . It was cold last night , 2 degrees , where I am in Catalunya just outside barcelona , and I thought there might have been some localised precipitation up in the mountains

Yes definitely a joke. I realised part way through the day that it was Holy Innocents Day yesterday (basically like April Fools Day). I twigged on when one of the sport shops in ALV announced that they’d opened a gondola station on the third floor of their shop to Port d’Envalira (about 25km away).

Webcams in la Molina are something to behold. Surely they can't survive a third successive year of crap snow?

Yeah it looks pretty bad, checking out the webcams. Hopefully the dump of snow we get on the 5th will be enough for the pyrenees

Bareges was pretty thin yesterday, with mud, grass, and gravel here & there on browning pistes. Not going back till more snow.
Fine for beginners.

There was a dusting of snow on NYE and it got much colder meaning the snow cannons were running on full for about 24-36 hours. It made a massive difference.
The probability of a decent amount of snow at the end of the week/weekend is strengthening. Fingers crossed.

Yeah, just reported on the main outlook that Pyranees could have good weather. Hopefully it is accurate.
Looking like temperatures will drop and getting a good bit of needed snow for the area.

It’s been snowing down to about 1,500m in Andorra. It’s eased up for a bit now but more on the way.
We’re having a late start to our skiing today because we’re doing the torchlit run down to Pas this evening to welcome the three kings.

It’s snowed pretty much continuously since Thursday evening. However, it’s also been very windy so lots of fresh snow has been blown. Pretty much all the high lifts are closed today which is annoying because it was my last ski day of the holidays because I return to work tomorrow. Still, more snow forecast in the week so next weekend should be good.

Over in Font Romeu, only one of the chairlifts are shut due to high winds this morning(la calme North side) It's a joy to have fresh snow at last. It's been seriously lacking so far this season. It looks like it's drag lifts only for the afternoon, the wind has picked up even more.
A friend who's driving one of the transfer coaches between Pas de la Casa and Toulouse may well have to come back via Spain. They're imposing a weight limit for traffic coming up the French side due to the snowfall.

Finally she got the nod and was allowed to drive both up and back down homeward bound. This is fortunate for the incoming crowd, because on days like this it otherwise means 3-4 hours more travel plus a driver change at Enveitg which can lead to even more delays.

Anyone got any info on the snow cover and forecast for Pan Arinsal? Youngest is off there on the school ski trip in a few weeks, and would be interested to know what it’s currently like
