Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val d'Isère as a beginner?

I had a great couple of holidays at 1650 staying in a large and very sociable chalet with excellent food and a fun group of people.

@Dr John, your point about Courchevel 1650 being an artificial construct and dead after 8pm I’d agree with.
Val D’Isere does have a proper living town, even if it’s dominated by more accommodation built specifically for letting out during the winter season.

My point would be that, if you ski for 1 or 2 weeks per year, the mountains and quality of skiing far outweighs town ambience as a factor of importance.

There are far better towns and cities with nightlife to enjoy in the U.K. than either of those ski resorts. I can get that, say, 50 weeks a year.

Tenuous at best - the quality of skiing for a week should always outweigh the fact as to whether there are a few residents - Courch is just a better ski area for their needs.
VdI is no doubt magical for intermediates and above
