Reading on another forum: If you live in an "unconfined" region of Spain (such as Madrid), you can drive to Andorra, it seems without a PCR, and the lifts are open. Apparently they are not selling lift passes to French people, as they are not supposed to be there....but there is a black market trade...
Still no sign of restrictions being lifted in Catalunya. I wonder will the annual March mega dump happen this year...

Yep. I have English friends who live in France in Andorra at the moment with their family on school holidays. They were allowed in without a PCR test and have been sold lift tickets after showing their UK passwords.
When returning to France they need a negative PCR test within 48 hours and have booked a test in Andorra la Vella for 40€. Only Grau Roig, Soldeu and El Tartar have skiing with limited lifts open. Masked are required in all public places including lift queues. There are some bars and restaurants open, with distancing in place.
@mrvinegar, Fingers crossed for the March Mega Dump as it is melting like crazy at the moment and numbers stop rising in France or we well may be into further restrictions.

And there is some snow forecast...

Ok - so can foreigners ski in pyrennees at the moment? As in could I arrive from Ireland and ski? Have no problem getting PCR

Yes, apparently movement to Andorra from Catalunya is still not allowed , no idea if they check it though ...
So it’s a choice between Baqueria and Massella / la Molina, or maybe Port Aine and Vallter..Baqueria looks to have the best snow , long term forecasts show a reasonably big snow fall forecast for around 20 March

And they will sell me a lift pass / let me stay in a hotel despite my inability to speak any of the local languages?

I can't answer that! But I think lift passes will be sold online to control capacity...
Re Baqeruia, looking at their site only 34k is open, which isn't much, there is going to be a lot of people wanting to go ski in the next few weeks though, and this snow, if it arrives, might see more of it opening up....

Yes - a text from a mate in Barcelona confirms Catalonia is relaxing domestic travel restrictions so I suspect it could get busy

@8611, As an international you should be able to travel through Catalonia to access Andorra. Currently only French aren't being sold ski passes even though 'officially' saying ski passes sold to residents only but French can visit and stay in Andorra. Grandvalira raised day pass price to 42 euro from 20 last week, approx 90km open, Pal 20 euro but not much open except weekends, Arcalis 25 euro but I think closes 14:30.

3 days of lift assisted skiing in Grandvalira.
Very lucky with 20cm of fresh overnight making for an excellent day today.
Lift passes now up to €52 as the links between Pas, Grau Roig, Soldeu and El Tarter are all now open.
Passes still not being sold to the French and our passports were checked when we bought ours.
Masks being warn by everyone and needed in lift queues.
Restaurants very well organised with one-way systems, well spaced tables and hand gels all over the place.
We travelled back into France armed with our -ve Covid tests from the test centre in Andorra la Vella, but we're waved through without being stopped.
The test centre is on one floor of a multi-story carpark, easy to park for your test .
We were in and out in less than 10 mins and results were emailed within 24hours.
Unofficial rumours are that the lifts will be running until the 11th of April.

@mortonia, looks wonderful glad someone can be enjoying the snow. Where abounce were those photos taken? I can't place them.
How busy was it?

The first one is one of the couloirs above Grau Roig. High traverse from the Pic Blanc Chair.
The second one is in El Tarter in between the pistes around the Tamarro red.
Wasn't too busy skiing straight onto lifts + plenty of spaces in the restaurants.
Looked like they were gearing up for more people to be coming with the links being opened.
Definitely, more places opening up I guess for the coming Easter/school holidays.

€40 for the Covid test.
Will hopefully be back for a couple more trips before the lifts are shut down for the season.
With a bit more ski touring in France if the snow allows.

€40 is very reasonable.
Good to hear you will get some more trips in it would be a shame for the snow to go to waste

Wow - thats less than half what I pay at home. Another Covid scam.
Anyone have any idea how busy it will be at Easter? I assume very busy in the circumstances?
My other worry is the incidence of Covid in Andorra seems quite high

|

@8611, that could be a consequence of them using the official population and not adding the number of visitors in to that.

Yeah, hard to know. Also hard to know if I'm actually capable of caring any more.
Yesterday's announcement that people in the UK are "extremely unlikely" to be able to travel abroad even though the entire nation will likely be vaccinated shortly has me bothered. Beginning to think next season is in doubt too and maybe should grab a few turns while I can.
Unfathomable franky, I can't understand it at all.

Made it to Grandvalira today, very windy at higher altitudes and lots of the new snow seems to have been stripped away, still some fresh snow to be found between the trees though, the area by the snowpark in El Tarter was good, tomorrow more wind is forecast for the morning so I'm going to drive to Baquieria, conditions seem better there....
