Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Plantar Fasciitis - Winter shoes (need advice)

@VolklAttivaS5, Speaking of Icicle, I see Kingsley is still using the pictures my guide took when I was last there - must be 10 years ago...

It's the montage of 4 pics with me and another guy who's name was Frank I think. I'm yellow helmet. We had good weather! Lovely granite climbing and bolted belays which I always liked.

In the background of this one you can see where a huge lump fell off Les Drus that year - the clean grey patch above and to the left of Frank's head. An Alpine hazard!

@red 27, sooo after doing the stretching and strengthening exercises at least once a day since my last post, guess what has made probably the biggest difference?
Birkenstocks around the house instead of bare feet or slippers!
I knew I had some somewhere and have had them on around the house for a couple of days now.
Bliss!
Seems to have more or less eliminated it! Shocked Shocked
Will carry on with the strengthening and stretching exercises though.
I was skiing last week and spoke to a bloke who has trouble with it and what he does is wear trainers with orthotics as his ‘slippers’ (uses his old running shoes when he gets a new pair) so basically he never goes bare foot apart from in the shower or lying in bed. He said that nailed it for him.

Just mentioning about the Birkenstocks in case it helps anyone else.

@VolklAttivaS5, you know what I was thinking about this earlier today and I realised that I forgot to mention that I have a pair of Kenkoh sandals that I wear in the house - as you say, very important and helpful

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@red 27, ah! Yes they are invaluable.
I had to walk along pavement 2 miles to the hairdressers today as my van wouldn’t start this morning so guess what? It was back-once I got home again after at least 4 miles walking on a hard surface. Not enough support in the shoes I was wearing clearly!

So the Birkenstocks are back on again at home.

Freezing a plastic bottle full of water and rolling your bare foot over it helps to relive it a bit.

I think that while the Birks will alleviate the symptoms, it sounds like you still need to be persistent and patient with contnuning to treat the underlying cause via the Str&Str regime.

you know this already I think... Smile

@red 27, yes I will continue with the exercises as they aren’t a bad thing to be doing either way.
I’ve ordered some footbeds to go in my trainers too so when I do go to the gym
I don’t then suffer from the lack of support.

Have a read up about shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis.

I was lucky to have a physio who includes this within her standard treatments. I think I had 6 sessions in the end & was resolved very quickly.

Also had it on tennis elbow which worked a treat too.

I had that too, 6 sessions, although it was a bit of a struggle to get Vitality to pay for it.

I had that funny tape put on too - didn't rate that tbh

It certainly didn't do me any harm and I think probably helped a bit in conjunction with the stretching and strengthening

@VolklAttivaS5, I had a mild case a few years back, and wearing them certainly helped mine.

I seem to be ok now
The Birkenstocks made the biggest difference and also that calf stretch where you cross your leg in front then do the stretch.

I did an 8.3km walk all on pavement on Wed afternoon and no ill effects.
I had gel inserts in those trainers just from the supermarket nothing fancy and that helps on the heels for sure..
