Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

No worries. Sorry it only occurred to me after posting that R.L. Williams is in full time private practice only.

All the best!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

This is an interesting thread.

My right ankle has had numerous injuries over the years from playing rugby. Being young an stubborn, probably not rehabbed properly after each one. After my most recent injury to it circa 2-3 years ago it was x-rayed. One thing they did find is the early signs of arthritis. Nowadays, its constantly aching especially when the weather gets cold, my range of movement is poor and it crunches/cracks when I put rotate it. I have poor proprioception in it which I think leads to me rolling on it more often even if just walking on relatively flat ground.

I've just kinda put up with it the last few years but I think I may now start exploring options with it. If it's this bad now at my relatively young age of 33 I hate to think what it'll be like in 10-15 years time.

Cheers @holidayloverxx ... I think like most things these days .. if you want something done well, you have to do it yourself.

I think replacing an ankle is probably not one of those things wink Laughing

No worries. I have patients so can't share much due to confidentiality, but seeing an ankle specialist doesn't hurt and don't fear the fusion!

No one is asking you to name them! Toofy Grin And no one knows the identity of motdoc anyway...

I shattered my leg age 18, skiing Gore Mtn Jan 6, 1970. Ankle is fused 1987 and have TKR 2010. Headed to Killington Ski Race Camp again in 3 weeks. Knee replacement is no problem, but with little ankle flex, I turn only one direction we'll and every turn I need to correct (kick back) as both sides are so different. Anyone know any tricks to staying forward with a fused ankle?

I just popped in here again as my ankle is giving a lot of gyp for the last few weeks.

I did get to see the specialist in Cambridge back in 2021 (I think)
It was on a "good day" for my ankle .. I was having no pain and walking well.
I felt I was a bit of a fraud swaggering into the X-Ray department.

"Fred the Foot" the consultant said, "I advise that you come back when you are in real trouble with it".

So I just put it on the back burner and got on with my skiing.

All was going well till about 6 weeks ago, I was having some coaching in the Hemel Fridge.
But an "airborne" snowboarder knocked me down.
I was in agony, my arthritis has kicked back in and I'm struggling to walk.

I'm getting very good physio advice and I'm doing my best to follow it.
I just hope I can get better soon.

@DrLawn, oh no! I hope everything calms down soon. I was at Hemel earlier this week and there were a lot of young lads completely oblivious of other people on the slope - unguided missiles.

Thanks Hurtle, The young lad was very concerned and apologetic, but I'm just hoping (and hopping) that its not a life changing injury.

He came off the "roller" and cam right across to the middle of the slope.

I must admit I did go back and ski 10 days ago, but I was not in the zone. Skiing is much easier than walking.
I noticed that the roller was not there that day.

I'll look out for you @Hurtle,

I hope you get better soon! Unfortunately trauma to an already arthritic joint often hurts like hell. It usually does get better/ back to baseline over a few months but not always Sad
Best wishes

Thank you @motdoc, I just hope I'm not on the "not always Sad " side of the fence.
I would have thought I'd seeing some sign of improvement by now .. but it seems like its going backwards.
