Poster: A snowHead

There are no Austrian holidays on that table. I think the main one for visitors to Austria to be aware of is 'Wienerwoche' which is normally the first week in February when at least a quarter of the population of Austria have a week off and go skiing.

From my experience:
- 3rd week in December (just before Christmas holidays): everything is open (in preparation for peak season), usually cold and good snow conditions and no crowds.
- 3rd week in January: usually the best weather in France (=very cold and sunny), little less in Austria. Cold winter snow, reasonably priced and not crowdy.
- 3rd week in March: first week after all school holidays. Snow cover is at it's max, reasonable cold (especially this year) and long sunny days. Prices are much lower compared to previous weeks.
If I put some statistics during my skiing career 7 years:
- 1x going 3rd week in December: Saalbach, very good snow, bad weather (snowing all the time).
- 3x going Christmas week: 3x Dolomites: poor snow cover outside of pistes, generally sunny and warm. We hit a jackpot in december 2015 where we had a 10-year snow storm => first time in history they had to close Sella Ronda due to amount of new snow, but generally poor snow cover and white ribbons.
- going 3rd week in January - France (6x Val Thorens, 1x Les Deux Alpes, 1x Tignes): 5 times we had good weather (5 sunny days, 1 day bad weather) with good snow cover, one time we have opposite (2 sunny days, 4 days of rain and snow)
- going 3rd week in January - Austria (1x Saalbach): mixed bag with 2 days of cold and snowing, but then warm and sunny (which transforms powder to snow concrete )
- going 3rd week in March - France (1x Val Thorens): glorious sunny weather with excelent snow cover.
- going 3rd week in March - Austria (1x Saalbach, 2x Zillertal): mixed bag... This year exceptionally cold and cloudy, but previous years unusually warm and soggy with day or two of sunny weather. Generally hard conditions in the morning, slushy in the afternoon.

When I only used to do one week, it was either the 2nd/3rd week of Jan, or the same in March.
Jan is colder but is quiet and the snow if often the best of the season. March is warmer, normally busier but the days are longer.
