@yorkshirelad, all sounds good....especially that you can keep your knee moving. Recovery from this will be a lot easier than the TPF

Having got back and viewed the X rays we are amazed that i have not brace or pot on my leg. The tibia has a Y fracture just below the knee and under the old TPF bracket,,.. then from the other angle it show a lateral fracture down to about halfway. The Fibia is broken at the top and the bottom.
I flew home with a bandage around my leg !!!! The long new bracket looks good but there seems to be a large part of the Tib not fastened to anything. (Cant seem to be able to load the X rays)
Im resting the leg and nit moving it at all until ive seen my consultant tomorrow as i feel something is not right...

@yorkshirelad, you can't upload the xrays. Take a photo of them and post that.
Sounds nasty but out of interest what purpose do you think a brace would serve? Keep us posted on what your UK consultant says

@yorkshirelad, best of luck with your recovery. There is always light at the end of the tunnel😄 ( speaking as someone who has been on a ski holiday twice INTO resort on crutches... it's a long story.)

Been to see the consultant, .... result is not too good...it is a very complicated set of fractures, the fibia is of little concern....however, the surgery although very good is about 15 years out of date, im left with a large piece of tibia not fastened to anything, the bracket they have used , probably all they had, was not long enough, the tib was in three pieces, two are joined by the bracket leaving a large chunk of tib in no mans land, this problem is being referred to specialist in leeds. They May leave as is and hope it heals when swelling reduces etc. Secondaly he's fitted me with a removable support "boot". As the leg was in no state to be left unsupported, also it will help with drop foot.

That's such sad news after all your hard work and 4 years. I'm presently 2.5 months in from my Tib and Fib break so I can wholly sympathise with you. Speedy recovery to you @yorkshirelad.

I had no choice but to have surgery in italy, if you have the option i would suggest getting home to UK for it otherwise, i thought that being in a ski resort hospital they would be used to all sorts, but they are about 15 years behind UK in this type of repair, but they did look after me well.

I'm no medical professional but I can see why you were worried about the unsupported piece of bone. The other skiier must have hit you with a decent amount of force to do so much damage.
Get well soon vibes and keep us updated on your progress.

The hospital took loads of x-rays as they were convinced i must have more injuries as this was quite a shocking break and i must have broken something else .. then i was put in traction.. will post pic shortly of the frame

The fixing of the traction unit went into my femur has left the muscle really tender... difficult to bend my leg at the moment, but stitches (standard stitches, dissolvable one as well, plus millions of staples) come out monday so we can then work on loosening the muscle etc. Day one of rehab starts tuesday... will try to be ski ready for mid august !!!!
