Ian - Cool (I guess). Care to elaborate? Staying in the field? Moving to industry? What specialization in Physics?

PM, many thanks for the introduction, though I blush to admit you may have raised folks' expectations a mite high. Welcome to the neighborhood!
And thank you for the welcome, gentlemen. Truth to tell, I mostly surfed along in WTFH's back-eddies, arriving here before Epicski went into its pupal stage.
PM, I was actually piqued by your triangle image, and I was trying to think of a buoyant body in powder, much like those silly spine-crashing kayak-on-snow videos. But, then I got distracted by something else- ski tips, the extent of their turn-up, their effect on initial turn-in in powder, and why we don't see more of them in modern powder designs.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Physicsman, I'm here now and off to do similar science for Unilever. How about you?

Comprex, welcome, but I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't discuss my medical conditions in public, and since I reduced my banana intake, the eddies haven't been quite as destructive...

Hi SSH - Great to see you as well! I just noticed that you have 750+ posts here - Wow, a real old-timer on this forum.
Cheers,
Tom / PM
PS - BTW, since my cert exam back in March, I must confess that I haven't looked once at the spreadsheet we were passing back and forth, although at some point, I do want to get back to it. Right now, I'm focusing on getting ready for my new teaching gig.

Physicsman, nor have I, my friend! But, I do, too. I am planning to be guiding this next year instead of doing straight-ahead teaching, but I'd still like to complete my level II. (Guiding at the Over the Hill Gang at Copper)
I jumped into this site very early in its life. I gave up trying to keep up with PG and a couple of others who seem to be able to post pretty nearly continuously!
I offered to help moderate given my time zone separation from the UK and Europe crowd that has mostly populated these forums.

Ian - They are letting me off easy. Only one course in the fall semester, the special projects course for undergrad seniors. I will have 2 days per week for research and 3 days for teaching. They are giving me time to get some grant applications in, get my own research group set up, etc.
SSH - The OTHG guiding gig sounds like a heck of a lot of fun. Lets stay in touch.

Physicsman, you betcha! I am looking forward to it, and hoping I can make it work in light of my new "day job" running technology operations for a wireless networking start-up called "Roving Planet."
