Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Can you share ski passes?

I suspect that not too much 'checking effort' goes into full adult passes, however I've been skiing with an OAP pass holder who was asked to remove goggles and scarf to confirm they were in the correct age range!

Austria appears to not have an OAP pass unlike France. Unless someone can tell me otherwise.

@Maersk, Depends where in Austria. Skiwelt doesn't, but Ischgl does give pensioners a cheaper price.

That's a pretty bold claim

Edit: or do you mean the insurance that's optionally attached to the pass itself? In which case that seems somewhat more plausible although still unlikely I would have thought.

Quite remarkably diplomatic way of saying 'load of old toot' dontcha think? Agree the point re the carre neige type insurance that comes as an add on with ones ski pass.

I had the issue on first day of skiingin France, they would pull me over check my pass and then sort of shrug and tell me to carry on.

After the 4th time they realised me and my oap father must have cards round the wrong way. The cards had names on them but no pictures so
I assume they were loaded incorrectly. So we had to swap passes and was effectively using the wrong pass for the rest of the week.

@Morrisvillemant, I live in Veysonnaz and although they have many concessions on passes have never heard of a shared parent pass. Also they are very strict on sharing passes (they use photo technology) and I know people have had theirs confiscated for doing so. Maybe you will get away with it in some places, but in the Printse/4 Vallees they are very 'hot on the case' When are you coming here? I could maybe find out for you.

Never seen that in any small print. My insurance does not mention ski passes at all. Do you have a link?

@sah, it might be the case if you bought insurance with the pass.

Lifties usually get a bonus for every misused pass they catch.

I changed my jacket one lunchtime at Alta and was asked to confirm my ID next time I used a lift. Luckily I was carrying my passport. [ I need it to get the old farts discounts. ]

My son got stopped at the bottom of Val D'Isere a few years ago, we had bought two child passes, one for our daughter & one for our son, they were identical, nothing to identify whether they were bought for a male/female.

Made it worse as OH & daughter had got on the lift out of resort!

What a palaver to convince the lift staff that we weren't fiddling their system [we had bought the passes in Tignes] they took the pass & told us to report to the office in Tignes with our receipt & they would re-issue the pass Crying or Very sad

Right pain in the a** especially when we had no idea the passes were individual to male/female Puzzled

Possibly, but that isn't what most people from the UK will think of when he just says "ski insurance".

Particularly if they don't usually ski in France Smile

I can see that insurance sold with the lift pass and connected to it could reasonably be invalidated if said lift pass is used fraudulently.

if you buy a lift pass for a couple of days do they even take your name?

isn't a kind of a moot point anyway as even if you get caught every single day, all you'll be forced to do is buy another pass so you'll only be spending the same amount as if you purchased two each day in the first place?

For a one/two day pass, perhaps.

But if you buy a 6 day pass at the start of the week, and have it confiscated on the 2nd day because it is used by somebody other than the one who used it on the first day, it will cost you rather a lot.

And it wouldn't surprise me if they have a list (with photos) of people who have had passes confiscated this week, and don't allow you to buy another.

No photos on the 6-day monts de la Lune pass. So as long as you don't both try and use it at the same time, it isn't a problem. Ideal for a couple sharing child care duties.

Does anywhere bother with photo passes for less than 10 days now? I can't remember the last time I had my photo on a pass.

This doesn't mean you're allowed to share - the small print always says you can't. And they *do* take your photo when you first use the pass (you have to look very hard at the small print to find that info). In theory you can be caught even if your photo isn't on the pass.

There was security checking ski lift photos on the monitor at the Trabanta (Thyon/Les Collons) chairlift this morning and pulling people over. It wasn't the liftie, someone much more official.

Likewise but I wouldn't put it past an insurance company to try and use use it to wriggle out of a claim as you are in effect skiing somewhere you shouldn't be!

But can be done electronically? When you buy a pass online? Or with a camera on the spot if you buy in the resort? The EK can't be that far behind the times. It's not like the olden days when you had to take a wee photo with you.

Just got caught in a lift in Tignes/valdisaire, didn't realise we couldn't share a 6 day pass (half day each while other looks after kids) and didn't know it took photos! Pass confiscated (day 5 so hadn't been flagged b4 then)
Don't really want to do day each as I'm not fit for 8 hours boarding - and grandparents isn't an option . Ski holiday just got way more expensive Sad

@Cubs, sorry but that is the case for most of us. to be honest a 4 hour pass would do me most days but then you have to buy a new pass every day as they don't do a 6days at 4 hour only.

@Cubs, oh dear.

Maybe go for the part day tix or somewhere that has a points based pass based next time if you dont want to ski all day. Maybe a bit more expensive/restrictive way of doing it but not as expensive as getting it confiscated.

Skistar passes (various Scandinavian resorts) have name, gender and DoB, I think....hard to dodge unless it's a typical Norwegian winter day when you are wearing 5 layers and a helmet.

@Cubs, Ski Amade here in Austria do a Young Family Pass, same price as an adult pass but you can share it if your child is under 3. Might be worth considering for future holidays. Ange.

Dolomiti Superski do a family pass which is more than a single pass but allows you to share your pass. Looking here http://www.dolomitisuperski.com/en/ski-pass/reductions it looks as though it is +20% compared to a standard adult pass.
