Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Driving to Alps in Easter - compared to summer (snow and congestion)

I drove it on Friday and there was no roadworks to speak of.

Thanks. As in as wide as cutting across to Bourge-en-Bresse, or just that A15-A432 that skirts around Saint Expurery airport ?

I usually go via the A42 past Bourg en Bresse, but it then joins the A432 passing very very close to Lyon Airport. I do not like the A6 and at Easter it will be full of Belgium heading for the Med

That's good news. I did wonder where they'd all appeared from!

If its anything like British roads, roadworks are known to just spring up overnight though....check out googlemaps and michellin, they are both listing delays.

Googlemaps still lists construction work at Amiens, Saint Quentin, Reims, Beaune.

But will you be going to Amiens or Beaune? There might well be bits and pieces but unless there's something huge you're still better off on the A26. Take a good audio book - passes the time beautifully.

Also, remember that road works on French motorways (away from Paris and Lyon) don't tend to cause big problems because traffic levels are so much lower than in the UK.

Sorry @pam w, I meant these are the closest towns, but listed on the A26

The A26 goes from Calais to Troyes. Neither Amiens nor Beaune are near the A26, are they?

@pam w Agree on the audio book - makes a potentially tedious drive quite pleasant!

+1 on the audio books. Having four kids in the back means those seat back DVDs aren't practical, so we put on an audio book that the whole family listens to. David Walliams is a favourite, and I've lined up a couple of Alex Rider stories for the drive to Morzine this weekend. They last for *hours*.

One friend of mine told me she listened to 'Fifty Shades of Grey' on her earphones. Said it leaved her hands free... Shocked

But Amiens, for example, is nowhere near your route. Just relax, it'll be fine. A few minor roadworks will make little or no difference.

I picked a town near the little roadworks sign. I have a week to go, I'm sure they will move the little orange man off the google map and put him some place else. And now I'm off to play 'sitting on the M25'
