You mentioned driving and I have to say that with children in tow it is by far the easiest way to travel to a ski resort! Providing of course you live in the south of England |

Dug this old thread out as it was an inspiration! Looking at doing it either in March or early April!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

LOTA, it was wonderful that sparklies and daughter had a good time, but personally the whole prospect fills (filled) me with dread.
I reckon you've got to be a Very Special Person to make this work - you may be that sort of person, but i know i'm definitely not.
The fact that sparklies kept her (and her daughter's) spirits up through the day despite on a couple of hours of crap sleep shows she is definitely in the Very Special category.
Go for it if you really want to, but be warned: it could so easily be purgatory.
(I have done the overnight Eurostar either end of an 8 day trip to La Plagne - never again!)

@Jonpim, Thank you for your fatherly advice. However, I'm not sure I've fully understood the inference of 'Very Special Person' - do the capital letters denote something that I'm missing?
In the old days, the Swiss Travel Centre in London did a one-day trip, by air, to Engelberg. The price was really decent (I think Swiss wanted to fill up their early morning and late evening flights to and from Heathrow). I very much regret not doing that back then, and this seems like it could be similar fun.
And I've done the old overnight Lunea service to and from Biarritz - and it can't be as bad as that!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

We've done the weekend on a 7pm Friday flight out of City, 6pm Sunday home from GVA into City (there are later flights, but this one works well with kids). Did it last year with a 5 and 8 yr old, repeating in a couple of weeks (kids now 6 and 9, but also taking a 4 and 10 yr old with us!).
Works brilliantly. Kids fall asleep in car from GVA around 10pm, then transfer to beds in Argentiere without waking much. This gives 10+ hours proper sleep for kids on first night and 8 hrs for us, 2 full days skiing, and we're back home in the UK our own beds by 8pm on the Sunday night.
For 4 people this is no more expensive that the snow train, and we're well rested throughout.

Can't say I have - and that AA Milne quote makes as much sense as your posting, I fear!
Anyway, you've put me right off - think I'll have a two-day midweek jaunt to Engelberg instead!

@Jonpim, Thank you. That restaurant is at the bottom of a tricky-ish itinerary. Very smart inside but very expensive!!!

“When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.”
Makes sense to me. Have you never had a Thing which looked less Thingish, in the cold light of day? I certainly have.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.
