Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamonix newb, a few questions

Amphersand, I ski in goretex shell pants (no insulation) with only a pair of Skins underneath and my legs never get cold. Since you'll be boarding, you may want something with a little insulation around the derrière because you'll be sitting in the snow a fair bit Toofy Grin

@hamilton, €7.60 for a pint of Affligem in l'Atelier, Chamonix town as of last Saturday. A bit cheaper for you brits after yesterday's weirdness.

9 euros a pint? yikes!

Does Chamonix have such a thing as an 'off licence'? Or are they just as expensive?

Carrefour the other side of the mainroad/motorway is the cheapest for beer and wine, for going out try and remember where the happy hours are.

monkey and munster are two for one 4-6pm (5e for two pints at monkey and 4.5 at munster) la moraine for wine and beer runs to 7, and monkey does 241 cocktails 9-10. you can get a jug of beer for 10e when there's football on (which is most nights!) at bardup as well and if you like tequila you can get fairly smashed at tequila Tuesdays at the terrasse, they also do toss the boss as well on Wednesday I think....

munster and boogie woogie are both 4.5 for a pint, monkey is 5, bard up is 5.50.....even the cap horn is only 7 euros, im not sure who charges 9!

@eddiethebus, the non-CMB restaurant (Altitude2000?) up Brevent is eye wateringly expensive...

Apres - Chambre Neuf. If live music, table dancing and jugs of beer flying through the air are your thing Smile

All-night pubs - Rue du Moulin or Cham Sud will have a selection beside each other. Plenty others about too.

Nightclubs - Amensia or Le Tof. I think the others closed down Puzzled

yeah, I wouldn't expect anything different really Sad

I don't think cmb own any of the mountain restaurants. They sold them off to a group of ex-cmb directors who formed the company serac a few years ago in another very much cmb brown envelope type deal rolling eyes

fix...the bunker is still open, it used to be called the white hub Smile

@eddiethebus, I knew SERAC had the operating licences, I didn't know they were ex-CMB. Makes perfect sense, for them rolling eyes

Just wanted to say a big thank you to you all, we had a great trip to Chamonix and your advice was invaluable! It really did make all the difference.

The people where fantastic, the town is just the right size and not over commercialised yet, the bars and beer prices where all great, instructors where good, the slopes where perfect, lots of fresh snow and the snowboarding was a doddle... the only mark against it: the buses where too busy and not frequent enough and working out which way the bus was going after Chamonix Sub was a guessing game in itself.

Good work everyone!
