Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi Guys
newbie here! Madeye-Smiley
So happy I found this site - I'm a self confessed major snow-aholic. My wife and I's addiction has meant we moved from the UK to Switzerland 9 years ago and for the last three years we've been living in the Berner Oberland - as close to the ski resorts as is feasible for our work. Are there any other members located in the BO?
Cheers
A
PS - Good news about the extra snowmaking machines at the Kleine Scheidegg also!!

Stab - can you tell me the name of the Wengen bar/ pub which shows Live Premiership games? It's on the street behind the Cable Car station. Currently I have to travel to Pickwicks in Bern to get live football (nothing in Spiez and haven't found anything in Interlaken). Also Pickwicks stopped selling Boddingtons a while back so I have to buy it from the Coop now Blush

Right I know where to call in for a boddys and the footy now wink
We just got digital from Cablecom with BBC and ITV which is enough for us after 9 years surviving on Swiss TV + BBC Prime and CNN Shocked . We enjoy the social aspect of watching sky footy in a pub with others so will resist the sky package. Will stay in for the Chelsea Liverpool game tonight though.
Yikes, major storm clouds over us, who switched the lights out?
Chris - long story why we chose Spiez, but it was the furthest we could move towards the mountains without being too painful getting to work.
How long have you been in Wengen Stab? Are you living and working there full time?

Has anyone ever done the aletsch gletcher? Or any touring up the jungfraujoch? Is it mainly downhill to the valais? I know there are a few up parts but I'm hoping it's not too much. Would you even consider doing it on a snowboard? Is it possible to die up there quite easily? Being on Scheidegg every day you hear about how many people are missing or dead every week but surely they are doing something they shouldn't be.
I have full helicopter insurance and a phone without any credit on it, any more equipment I should be taking?

no but annoyingly the house next door was sold (it's an eyesore) and the new owners seem to be destroying it from the inside out so the outside of my house looks like a scrap yard/2nd hand bed shop/garage sale/new orleans apartment Evil or Very Mad They also look like the kind of people who would frown upon my kicker shenanigans that I get up to in the winter. Can't you use the old beds as a landing pad for the kicker and rustle one up from twigs and mud, medievel stylee?

stab, seriously do not do the aletsch without a guide who knows the safe route down, it wouldn't be a case of your girlfriend paying for a funeral as it is unlikely that your body would turn up, it's not that bad to ski but you need someone to show you the safe route down

Haven't done it but I know the Grindelwald Mountain Club organize guided downhill ski trips in May every year. You can contact them through the tourist office. I've considered it but like you I'm a boarder and hate the flat bits, not sure if it is suitable for boarding - particulalrly after a heli-ski trip in Canada when I tagged on to a bunch of skiers and ended up having to be towed for much of the journey Embarassed
I had friends that tried the Aletsch glacier in May 6 or 7 years ago on their own. They underestimated the amount of time it would take and also the quickness of bad weather setting in, and had to break into an empty mountain hut to spend the night. There was no mobile phone coverage up there so their loved ones were obviously anxious and called emergency services who spent hours looking for them. They skied down on their own in the morning and received a huge bill from the emergency services which they disputed, saying they didn't need or ask for the help. Can't remember how they resolved it rolling eyes
