Can anyone confirm when the Vanoise Express closes for the season? I think it's open this Sat 21st, then closed Sun 22nd onwards, but there are conflicting reports on various websites
skichampcouk - I'm out Fri to Tues, so if you're around see you in the Pitchoun for Happy Hour

GW, As you can't buy a Paradiski Pass after 21st April I guess thats when it closes.
But indeed the Paradiski.com website says 'the ski area' is open until 28th!
On the official La Plagne website the following offer is made including Villages

Du 21 au 29/04/2012 : Offre fin de saison : réduction de 25% sur le tarif ci-dessus |

GW, I should be in Champagny on Sunday, not sure what time yet. I had planned to do some jobs in the South over the weekend and travel up early next week.
Having looked at the forecast I think a change of plan is in order so will meet you in there either Sunday or Monday.
I am bringing the car back to England on the 29th April so if you need anything bringing back let me know (as long as I have enough room for wine and Genepi).

skichampcouk, Good stuff, C U at Happy hr, hopefully Sunday eve. Will have a think about what we might want to bring back thanks, Pelforth Brune may well feature!
Boredsurfing, Cheers, think that confirms it is open on 21st. Was thinking of having a last ski in Les Arcs for the season, Ag. Rouge, Malgovert... but given the forecast will probably spend the whole weekend playing in the Plan Bois trees!

Fantastic conditions in La Plagne this week. Sunday was a powder day on and off piste. By Monday the pistes had been bashed and were in excellent condition.
It then snowed from Monday evening right through until early Wednesday morning and the conditons this morning were absolutely incredible. About 10cms of powder snow on some of the pistes that had been bashed, maybe 30 to 50 cms of powder on unbashed pistes and off piste.
It is cloudy today keeping the snow in excellent condition. Conditions are more like January than the end of April.

Next Seasons opening dates.
According to the La Plagne website the main La Plagne ski area is open from 15th December 2012 until 28th April 2013.
The lower villlages - Champagny, Montalbert, Montchavin and Les Coches are open from 22nd December 2012 until 28th April 2013.

Just seen on a section of the Champagny website that the ski area will be open from Tuesday 18th December 2012 although the main page shows it as open from 22nd December.
I will contact the tourist office to confirm when it actually opens and will report back.

Hi Standee, Hope you are well.
We will be in Champagny from mid December and are planning to be there most of the season. Jill finished work last month so we are taking this opportunity to spend the season out there.
Where are you staying?
We will definitely have to arrange to meet up for a beer

Looks good.
I think we stayed in that building (Balcons de Belle Plagne) when it was first built, a great location. From what I recall it was out of the ski locker room and straight onto the piste.
Send us a PM or text when you arrive and we will arrange where to meet up.
Have a look at the new Roche de Mio webcam today, it looks pretty good at the moment after the weekends snow - http://laplagne.livecam360.net/rochedemio
Can anybody work out how the 4x4 managed to get up there?
Any suggestions on how it's going to get back down?

I would assume it would work. The only issue would be if you had a problem with it or if it was lost or stolen you would probably have to go to a Les Arcs lift pass office to sort it out.
It is definitely worth giving the Les Arcs tourist office a ring to see if it is practical, I think the offer finishes at the end of October.
Please let us know what they say.

All of the tourist office staff speak English as a second language in the Champagny tourist office so I would think the Les Arcs tourist office will have English speakers in there.

Hey guys, time for a new thread. Someone place start it from your side.
To answer the ski pass questions.
Hi folks, the details of this offer have been posted on the Les Arcs season thread since the start of October. They are giving a 15% discount, not 20%. Whether you are on the Les Arcs side or La Plagne side. the full 'Paradiski' discounted pass from 3 to 15 days works everywhere so as long as there is not a problem with your pass, it should be ok. But as has been pointed out, if you do have a problem you will have to go to Les Arcs to get it sorted out unless you are very lucky with who you speak too in the La Plagne office. You can start your day from anywhere with the Paradiski pass. You will need to have it posted to your home address. It takes about a week to arrive. Remember this discount finishes on the 31 October so hurry. Well worth the effort as it means a full Paradiski pass costs 1 Euro more than the normal Discovery pass for one day only in Les Arcs. That is a great saving.
Here is the link: http://lesarcs.paradiski.com/
If you are buying the season pass, the discount is the same on both sides and anyone can buy this so if on La Plagne side, buy it there. If on Les Arcs side, use the link I just posted and choose Season pass.
Hope that explains it better. For more details either visit the Les Arcs season thread over in the snow reports section or my facebook Les Arcs Winter page.

Drove up to La Plagne yesterday so thought I'd post a quick weather report.
There is a good base now above 2000m, and some snow right down to the runs below Plagne Centre although this isn't really a base yet. The weather is sunny but cold - temperatures freezing each night right down to the valley so the next snowfall should be well below the current snow level.
Preperations seem to be going well for the season. They've been testing the lifts, snow cannons etc in preperation for the start of the season although no serious snow making going on as yet as far as I can see - guess they are waiting to see how much of what has been predicted actually falls between now and the start of the season.
There is still quite a lot of building work to do to finish the Plagne Centre changes but it seems to be finishing off stuff now so should easily be done before the season - they were furiously grouting tiles in the new galleries when we went up.
Web cams here:http://www.ice-fire.co.uk/les-coches-information/resort-webcams-la-plagne-les-coches
I can't wait for the season now!!

Snow and Sunshine, How much snow is being predicted?
I had a look at snow forecast and some is expected for this weekend and France meteo predict the weather looks like it will worsen next week but I have no idea how much is expected.
GW, No doubt see you in there. Send us a text when you arrive and we will arrange to meet up.

Most of the earth moving seems to have been done now in my opinion and you can see how the flow of skiiers will be better. Still got diggers etc on site though so there might be a few last minute adjustments

How much snow is being predicted?
|
No idea to be honest - every website seems to have different amounts.
Snow forecast who we usually find to be as reliable as anyone else are predicting 14cm on Sun night/Monday with more during next week but nothing before then. However, my non-scientific-and-completely-uneducated-in-weather-forecasting prediction is for at least some before then. There are what looks like snow clouds in the sky at the moment so I reckon either tonight or tomorrow morning - maybe??
I'll keep you posted if it snows tonight - and maybe even try and battle the photo-putting-up-system for some nice snow shots

Finger's crossed for some big snow soon! I'm driving out to do a season on the 1st (with Chalet Girl as co-pilot). Starting to get excited now!
BTW shouldn't somebody make a 2012/2013 La Plagne weather thread...?

French weather forecasts are pedicting snow all next week - 40cm predicted between now and the 1st Dec. Fingers crossed!!!!!!

Not quite sure why you changed the title of this thread to this season, but kept all the old posts. Think it would have been better to have started a new thread. It means that we have to skip to page 10 to find anything for this season. It might be a good idea to let people know that this seasons posts only start on page 10. Oh well!! Think I will do it for you.
THE 2012 - 2013 SEASON POSTS START HERE!!

chaletgirl - ta, will do - I don't have a French mobile number yet but will pass it along once I sort a SIM.
In other news, does anyone who is/has been in La Plagne know how often the bus from Aimé runs up to the resort, and how late it runs on a Sunday afternoon/evening? All the French travel websites appear to have either no information, or be unbelievably broken and I'm having trouble working out what time I would need to get to Aimé on Sunday 16th to get a bus up the hill and avoid incurring a massive taxi fare.
