Samerberg Sue, I suspect it's admin trying to brigade stuff together and he has the power to lock titles.

holidayloverxx, that's what I'm thinking now. I can see his reasoning, but to be honest he needs to take the 2 random place names out of the title to return it to the single ski region title. It is a meaningful one as even the British TOs use it, just before they describe it as "an undiscovered gem"!
I notice that the more well-known (to Brits) do not have nationalities or addendums!

Frosty the Snowman, me too, but not the addition of the towns as it then becomes misleading to anyone who does not know the region.

Ah, but what about the Pyrenees, South Tirol, Savoy or... Scotland! Who knows where this will all end...

No, we can lock entire threads but the OP can always change the title as long as the thread is active

holidayloverxx, well, yes, if he writes code, but he's an administrator same as me and I certainly don't have an option to lock a title.

nbt, I only suggested it as Samerberg Sue said she could not change the title and she is the OP

You know it makes sense.
|
holidayloverxx, I worked out how to do it now and have removed the names of the the two towns.
I think the addition of Austria is a good idea, so I left it. Listing all the individual regions would be silly I think and quite unnecessary.

Didn't ski today, I over did things on a ski tour last Friday and have had a pain in the chest since, so spent the morning checking out the very efficient Austrian health service. A couple ECGs, blood test, x-rays and a some prodding seems to say all I'm okay just strained a muscle.Phew! As Kersh says a bluebird day and bloody cold, hopefully back out tomorrow and gets some new pics back on the thread for "the ski area in the centre of Europe with terrific snow conditions, wonderful off piste, locals that love nothing more than charging down the piste on their race replica skis and where a spag bol and a decent beer doesn't cost an arm and a leg" .

waynos, all consistent except perhaps that bond between the entire snow pack and the ground on steep grassy slopes! Incidentally did you see the link to the avalanche yearbook I posted?

I am currently in Ramsau am Dachstein cross-country ski-ing. There has been a lot of new snow over the last few days and conditions are currently very good. Yesterday was what Norwegians call a 'blue day' - i.e. blue sky, blue shadows in the snow and blue grip wax under the cross-country skis. In other words, powder snow, good grip and glide and lots of sunshine, but not too cold (about -6). The exception to that was when we dropped down into the valley near Rössing, where it felt like -20 in the shade. In the past week, we have had about one beautiful day alternating with two days of snow and wind. The ski-ing has been great though.

nozawaonsen, Not seen any glide cracks on my travels, saw in the distance where one slide had released on a very steep SE facing slope below a ridge line so wind loaded and maybe some sun. The salzburg and steiermark avi reports do mention grassy slope hazard for steep slopes. I did click through the yearbook but my german is very bad which is frustrating as the material looks very interesting. And here's the year book link for Steiermark http://www.lawine-steiermark.at/berichte_archiv/saison1011/Endbericht_STMK_10_11.pdf

waynos, aha, good link. Much of it is the same copy as ends up in the full yearbook. Though the earlier sections get a more Steirische slant.

Did two runs this morning, both new off piste lines, both different both excellent. The first required some car logistics to ensure we could back the lifts. We did a line down from the Planai into the Unteral valley, just past where we staying. I skied toured up the route last week to check it out, a mellow line connecting together a series of meadows and a forest road. A few other tracks down the route, the snow was good, a little sun crust in places, SW facing. That run bagged drove out of Untertal up to Hochwurzen and ended up doing an unplanned line down from the top of Hochwurzen through the forest and clearings on a NE facing slope, quite steep in sections, where the snow was still very much powder. Took a little help from the GPS and knowledge from some summer hiking but the exit out was a forest track that led direct to a piste. I will be exploring this whole area much more as there seemed to be lots of options. Man a live this area, keep finding new gems right on the doorstep and there's more snow in the pipeline.
Meadow skiing...

Today's plans are now on hold, the warmer air has reached us sooner than forecast, + temps below about 1700m at the moment. Was hoping for a little ski tour but not in above zero and maybe rain later. Only a temporary blip as set to cool and lots of snow forecast for the next 3 or 4 days. Looks like a piste centric morning, if I can remember what the edges of the skis are for.
Quick update...it's now snowing, still says +3 outside, so hopefully a sign of the colder air pushing in already.

A wet and soggy day. Only skied a couple of hours this morning. To start with was not too bad higher up, enjoy some nice off piste, the snow was heavy with some fresh on top but the temps nudge up some more and suddenly it was wet porridge, that was the time to end the ski day. Been warm and raining on and off the rest of the day, just driven back home, the last few miles were the worst road conditions we've had. These roads are lightly travelled so have been snow covered since the first snow in December. This evening the roads are a quagmire of slush and compacted ice, just made it up to the apartment without chains, was really a chains kind of day. If it freezes it will be a tad slippery tomorrow but hopefully some nice fresh cold snow will help.

So I've not got the connector for the phone to the laptop and can't send my email a message from my phone - not a smart one obviously - so it will be words only for now. Arrived in Maria Alm yesterday - Flangesaxes we do love you and Radstadt and will def be back at some point before too long we hope - so we thought a different bit of Ski Amade was worth a look.
Staying about 100m from chair/gondola mixed lift and only a quick push to the T-bar where we tried to find our ski legs along with many small children who kept not quite getting to the top. Much snow and easy to ski tho it was raining for much of today at all levels. But the Hungarian waiter this evening assures us 30cm snow is on its way......
After an interesting time on a very red red - I'm not known for courage- we left the raceskiers training and caught the bus round to Aberg. Up to the top and down to Hintermoos and pretty good soft cover almost everywhere -Dave says on the slushy side but I'm happy whenever it isn't ice...... Still raining outside just now so not sure what tomorrow will bring. Pics will have to wait but reckon the webcams are going to give a reasonable idea.
Oh planning to do Konigs tour but being a bit on the less speedy side thinking of sections update tomorrow if time and energy etc allow.

Pumping it down with big flakes this morning. Temps at 1000m dropped from +6 last night to 0, set to keeping cooling. The snow level taken a beating from yesterday, don't need to many rainy days like that. Set to keep snowing for next few days.
