ledge, I would say next weekend might be better , but with Scottish mountain weather you just don't know. I nearly went up this morning for a cheeky half day as the weather forecast seemed the best over the next four days. However bad viz and the track needed dug out so no train until 12:00 , so glad I did not drive the 90 miles early this morning. With the MWIS forecst no better for the next few days I'm going to hold off and wait for the first Bluebird day , hopefully next week, Will watch the forecast the night before and make a decision then , I'm guessing Cairngorm will be superb by then.

Little_ice_age, I'm heading up to Aviemore with my boys either this weekend or early next week as they've got St Andrew's day & two insets off school next week. My guess is that somewhere will be open even if hard to get to. I saw a post on winterhighland tonight said that Glenshee were loading up bars etc and I wouldn't think Lecht would miss a trick either. |
Looking at the forecast, Saturday looks the best day for the centres to open, 10 to 20mph winds but Friday’s winds gusting to 55mph, Sunday gusting 60mph and Monday gusting 80mph.

mountainaddict, A9 should be fine , use the follwoing website http://trafficscotland.org/lev/ and hover over the camera on the A9 for Drumochter to get an idea of conditions , as most of the snow is coming in off the east , the A9 is not really bearing the brunt of the snowfall. Also shows the A68 on the live cams. Hope you have a great day , I'm waiting for the 1st bludebird day as its going to be epic when the sun comes out and the wind dies down.

A68 had a fair bit of snow around the border yesterday. check the link from Scot_Ski before you set off. I would imagine the A68 could be quite a lonely road to get stuck on.

If anyone is heading up today or tomorrow can you have a look over at ski hire and see if they are open yet? A couple of us have got next week off but one has own boots but not skis, driving up early morn so would be good to go straight to 'gorm (probably) and hire rather then Avimore and back. Ta!

Thanks!
Ok, hotel booked so we're defo on our way. Been twice before so know what to expect but just wondering if the rockhopper should come out or is coverage good enough for the pride and joy (which has a couple of knocks and is a couple of seasons old, so a scratch or two wont worry me but continuous mud will!)?

manicpb, nae mud to be saw, aviemore has had 6-8 inches since last night at village level. Ski road needs care but should start to get cleared a bit better in the coming days

lods of pow today at CGM, but couldnt see much further than my nose, but occasional glimpses of people floundering in waist deep powder. sadly wind getting up tomorrow which may scour a lot of areas and dump on others, just have to wait and see. Anyone driving - watch out as even the A9 most people down to 30mph and nearer 20mph on the ski road, so anyone drib=ving up leave loads of time and take care
