Don't worry, the risk that the funds have been embezzled is somewhere below nil. But that's not quite the point, or at least not the whole point. |
I'm not worried about embezzlement. I'm just starting to get seriously pissed of that reasonable requests for some form of update on what is happening with the money we've donated are being totally ignored.
Even a 'thanks for the donations, we're talking to chemmy, will give more details in due course' would be perfectly satisfactory.
But a total lack of response is either arrogant, lazy, or just plain rude.

PJSki, thanks for the sentiment. Unfortunately a thankyou is not the key to my frustration. I want to know the money has gone to where it was intended.

Joking aside, I do understand lower's frustration. I'm still waiting to find out what happened to the sixpence I deposited in an RNLI collection tin in June 1970.

some brief observations from someone who will typically give the benefit of the doubt but frankly the lack of an update is now seriously out of order.
1. PJSki - I am also a 'very busy bunny' but found 10 minutes to make a small contribution to what I thought was a good cause. Posters here are not asking for War and Peace but say 30 words to give an update and we will all shut up and refect in the nice warm feeling we would get from knowing we did a good thing.
2. Admin knows that there is a groundswell of bad feeling around and has not taken the time to make a quick post to give us heads up on what is going on or when there will be a reply
3. Admin has found time to make other posts - I would think a quick update on this thread was more important
4. If this was Ebay, there would have been an investigation by now - I wonder wat Paypal would say if it was raised with them.
Can I suggest that this is fixed before the concern goes wider than just the Snowheads forum.

alti - dude, key in "Chemmy Allcott Donations" and this "Even a 'thanks for the donations, we're talking to chemmy, will give more details in due ..." come up at number 3
I vey much agree with your point 3 above "Admin has found time to make other posts - I would think a quick update on this thread was more important" - but quite honestly, admin's idea of a priority sometimes leaves me completely baffled. He's not doing himsef or the site any favours here.

Well I had thanks from him - but think that was because my payment had gone into his account rather unrecognised and I had to confirm my existence - and then I was thanked. Perhaps its a bit of a game now to see how long the thanks can be withheld.

Even a date for a response would a step in the right direction. Your quip doesn't help.
I'll give a date because i'm also busy and being busy is a poor excuse for a lack of response. If we don't get a response by Friday 9th April, i'll start the reclaim process with paypal and once its complete i'll send a cheque direct with a note explaining why.
The appeal was to help chemmy finish the season. The season is coming to an end.
If the money can't be used till next year, fair enough. I'd still donate.
But at this point i wish i'd sent a cheque direct to chemmy. At least i'd know the money ended up where it was intended. And what started as a positive move, supporting British talent when the regulating body went tits up, has ended up with a bad taste in the mouth.
Every now and then my wife sends a bag of clothes to cancer research. 2-3 months later she gets a letter from cancer research telling her how much her donation raised. It gives us the warm, fuzzy feeling that has resulting in us donating about 4 time per year.
This farce doesn't.
Without even an inkling of what's happening with our money behind the scenes, the appeal has resulted in real frustration.

Hang on a mo, Chemmy is in the process of finishing the season isn't she? She went to Garmisch and is now in Méribel. Happen it's our donations that made that possible. She has posted on here before and no doubt will do so again once she's got a bit more time to hand. Can't see it's anything to panic about, no one will have embezzled any funds.

can I suggest that people who really are that worried about this pm Talltone (admin's representative on this planet ? ) or rob@rar who started the ball rolling. Those expecting a rapid reply from Graham, or a daily update on how the money has been spent may have a bit of a wait. I trust the bloke completely and think this thread is getting a bit pathetic.

Stoatsbrother - nobody has asked for a daily update and I for one am certainly not suggesting there is anything dodgy going on. The basic issue is that a bunch of people voluntarily gave up some cash (some will have made a bigger sacrifice than others). Let's not debate whether I, and the others that have posted, are right or wrong in wanting an upate, we have simply asked for one - this is not a pathetic request and deserves a reponse. No one has asked for a quick response but it's now gone on too long.

I'm not able to give an update as all I did was to get the ball rolling by asking if people wanted to donate. admin was already in touch with the GB team at that point so there was no need for me to be involved with the discussion about how the funds from snowHeads could be used to support the team.

lower, Chill out....
We raised the money to ensure that Chemmy could finish the season... and guess what... Chemmy has finished the season...
That is pretty good evidence that things have worked.
If it takes Cacner research 2 to 3 months to say thanks then maybe you should give this thread the same amount of flexibility?
IMO you are turning this very positive thread into quite a nag. If it really does mean that much then please stop posting and quietly withdraw your funds and do what you like with them.

Yes it is - money was given with great generosity and spontaneity to Rob's original suggestion. A great idea. And now because quite a few people would like an update they are being accused of nagging and suggestions made they should stop posting
All it needed was a bit of an update not the deathly silence that has happened. I don't want a thanks but I would have liked to have known how much was raised (thanks TallTone) and what was happening to it - ie. a bit of courtesy. I doubt I'd contribute again in a similar way.

For what it's worth, i've asked a number of times in this thread, waited for a response and have had no reply. I therefore PM'd admin over a week ago asking what is going on. He ignored my PM.
To make it very clear, i do not expect a minute by minute run down of any discussions with Team GB. I do not expect a personal thank you from Chemmy in this thread. I do not expect a pound by pound breakdown of how the money has been/is to be spent.
However, having responded to the request for donations i think it is entirely reasonable to be given some sort of update after repeated requests.
The season has moved on from the post Olympic appeal. I would like to know that my money is being used/going to be used constructively and not just sat in the Snowheads paypal account because admin is so busy he hasn't got round to sorting a donation. Those of you who know admin may think that's an unreasonable view. However, i don't know admin and therefore have absolutely no idea how he works and therefore would like to know that something is being done.
I've said my piece (in a number of posts) and won't continue to 'nag' over the next week. Admin will choose to respond or not. At the end of the week i'll choose whether i withdraw my donation or not. For what its worth, i fully agree that it is sad that this positive thread is becoming negative. But i am not the cause of the deterioration in the tone of the thread, nor am i the only one with the same view. My 'negative' posts are a direct result of total lack of response.

Strange one this. Just a "I'm working on things and will get back to you as soon as I can", from Admin, would be sufficient.
