Any mechanical types out there who can tell me if I can get my heater turned permanently on at the heater itself? There's nothing wrong with the heater - just the controls. Have to fix it.

I'm not 'mechanical' but wondered how you have established that the heater is working and the switch is faulty? Might be worth checking that the wires are firmly connected and the fuse has not blown.

I (don't) regret to say that I didn't go out at all today - first day off (apart from emails) for more than 3 weeks. Phone had one of it's hissy fits about taking photos, so no proof of what appeared to be a bluebird powder day.

Hey All,
I am writing this from my desk... after a great first weeks skiing in L2A. A dump of snow on Sun evening (3rd Jan) made for excellent conditions for the rest of the week. We had a day trip to Alpe d'huez on Friday, it snowed all day!!
Left resort at 6.30am sat morning, still snowing... I was gutted not to be going back on the mountain saturday!! We made good time to the airport aboard the Crystal bus... A short delay at Grenoble (2 hours). I think this was fortunate judging by the amount of people in the airport facing cancelled flights etc.
Many Thanks to easiski, for the instruction and making the experience most enjoyable!
Looking forward to Val Thorens at end of March!

PaulW, glad you got home OK, and you still have some of the white stuff to play with in the UK (more coming next week according to Carol Kirkwood).
today was lovely again. Very sunny, temps rising to +1 deg in the early afternoon in the sun. It felt positively tropical! The on piste snow was very nice, especially the bottom of the Valentin which I took my peeps down. Lovely soft layer on top of packed powder. The camera was too cold from being in the van, but I took a couple of pix later once I'd recharged the batteries, one looking up at the Diable and one looking down into Venosc.

It was perfect today. Very nicely prepared pistes and very view people about. A little cold on top, but very glad I made it out after spending the morning cleaning the flat. Car still not ready after Saturdays mishap, so I enjoying two extra days skiing, although I should be in Prague.

It dumped a whole lot more snow last night, about 30cms or so, and that was on top of the monster snow last weekend. It's been snowing off and on all day today as well. Just for once I had students who wanted to learn to ski in the soft stuff, and were quite up for it, so off we went. There was some lovely stuff on the Cretes to get warmed up on, and then (due to the Rachas being made secure and thus the Thuit being closed) we went to the top part of the Diable. We found some very interesting snow once we got onto the previously tracked fall, and back up the Vallons chair, off to the Super Diable and up there. The Tete Moute run hadn't been pisted and had top of boot fresh - nice - . From there back to Bellcombe and thence to the little corner between the Tete Moute and the Grand Nord Bis where we made fresh tracks in really quite deep snow.
Pix of one of my Danish students before during and after a very good somersault! Also a pic of the tree outside my house showing crazy snow on the branches. (For the observant among you, you are right in thinking the tree used to be bushier - it was trimmed in the autumn as some branches were actually leaning on my roof!)
After finishing with my students at the bottom of the Bellecombe, I followed Stuart Adamson's SCGB group down to the Cretes, but at that point they went off to the Valentin while I went for the trees on the Grand Pente - fab (nearly fell over once though). GP itself was tracked from the weekend, but I was skiing snow to mid-thigh in some places and only the second person down on the skiers' right.
Very nice day!

Awesome! Looking forward to the weekend - hope the wind doesn't make it too slabby/blow it all away...
Just remember Charlotte, if it does, you are to be held personally responsible.

All bodes well for my week in Feb then Charlotte! Just trying to talk to James in Grenoble to see if he has had problems getting to school, although I would imagine that it would have stayed open for much longer then the liver bellied schools over here!

Butterfly, gian-Luca? I do deffo think B would be better off doing a winter lesson due to the big jump between the nursery slope and the next level in the summer. OTOH he would be able to slide OK in summer .....
Saw Linds last night for a good old chin wag and gots lots of news from all over - great stuff! Grey today, another office running around day for me.

Today was grey and spittin gor snowing a good deal of the time. I did go up to the Cretes and then back down the Valentin at about 14.15. The snow was very good, but it was starting to bump up a little. I bet it was good and mogully by the end of the day.
I took David Ash down to get his car in the afternoon, and took this pic of the frozen lake at the bottom, looking towards LG direction.

Thing is I don't see persuading him to do a winter trip until he's had a go which either needs to be here at some point or there in summer I reckon (a weekend isn't really cost/time effective given the travel). In summer there is a nursery area at the top of the funicular isn't there? I take it the progression from that is Roche Mantel. BTW Fi has posted you some photocopies.

Butterfly, Got the photocopies thanks. Yes - depending on time. Later in summer we don't have Roche Mantel of course and then it's Puy Salie. Have to walk down the first bit etc. hassle. However - very flat bit with rope tow is OK for first lesson.

I've been stuck in front of the computer all day again today. My nice idea of taking the van to LG and coming back over the top was a no-go because their glacier lift isn't working at the moment. It is deffo too far to walk up from the resto at 3,200m. Oh well.
It's been a pretty nice day from about midday onwards, although down here the mist has been moving up and down a fair bit. Moody pic of the sun going down behind the mountains through the mist

Just arrived and settling in for the night. Snowing down to the dam, with the road white after Mont de Lans. Quite a steady fall right now so everything should be nicely freshened up in the morning

andytb, ooh, jealous! Hope you had a great day today
We're just back (well, yesterday) from a brilliant week in L2A! Bit of a hassle getting there last Saturday, but we made it in the end, so we got our full six days of skiing in (which I wasn't really expecting, tbh, so it was a bit of a bonus). First three days were beautifully sunny, then we had two days of great snow with less than perfect vis (but I can live with that, given the amazing under-ski conditions!), followed by a perfect last day of sunshine & powder
Wheee, it was so good! Wish we were still there

It was snowing most of the morning today, but not hard. The snow that fell last night was quite wet and heavy in the village, and even on the Cretes (warmer temps), however we found a nice 5+cms on top of the piste in the Upper thuit. good intro for my guys. Even the bottom of the Thuit was quite good and we tried a very short bit of steep and deep off the piste which was interesting at about 1700m
the only snag was that the viz was horrid. I hear that it cleared up near the end of the afternoon (after I came down), and Andytb has some nice photos of up on the glacier in the sun with magic hat & friend
I skied down in horrid viz and conditions and here's apic looking down fromt he top of the Valentin to prove it!

Confused I am!
Can't understand why the snow was wet? Will the snow due Wed be of better quality?
Did the snow get better higher up?

easiski, the camera belonged to one of the girls. After a quick waffle at lunch we took a gamble and went to the top- it paid off when we emerged from the cloudbase at the glaciers chairlift mid station. Absolutely stunning up there and only a light breeze - fortunately when descending back down the rest of the area was beginning to clear. Fingers crossed for a good day tomorrow

enjoying reading this thread and catching up with L2A goings on. the snow here was wet too - very. Not the sort I bother going out for, I'm afraid, especially in poor visibility. There was quite a lot of it, and it would have been leg-breaking stuff. It was not cold enough for nice snow to fall.

Linds, I was sorry not to be able to pop in on Saturday, but I just had too many things to do. glad you got home OK though.
We had a lovely day today, although it was colder than the last couple of days and there was a nasty sharp wind at altitude. When I took my gloves off to video my fingers nearly froze off! the snow was lovely on the piste, and the bottom of the Echines was OK albeit becoming slightly crusty. My guys did well and skied it fantastically. I am, of course, being very fussy with them, but their video wasn't as bad as they thought, and we had another nice drink apres ski in the Lutins with Pollyperks and Paul McK. It's cold again tonight, so I hopeful that the quality of the snow will improve overnight. Weds it looks like more snow.
Pic shows the Lauze T Bar and if you look at the highlighted bit you can see the digger that's workin gon it at the moment. 2 pylons appear to be missing currently, so it's not a surprise that the liaison with LG isn't working - never mind their glacier lifts not being in action. Had thought to go over with Paul tomorrow (need to take the van for heating work), but their day ticket has now gone up, so it would seem very expensive WRT cost as well as wear and tear on my dodgy knee.

It was lovely again today. The off piste snow was very nice in certain places, and the on piste snow was first class - as good as it gets basically. There was less wind than yesterday, and at lower altitudes it became really quite warm by midday.
All the guys onthe course were doing well, and getting much happier in deeper snow, although the Grand Pente (which was very cut up) did cause some anxious moments. Nevertheless, their progress is very good considering the difficult phase they're all at (trying to move from intermediate into advanced skiing).
In the afternoon I took the van to La Grave to (hopefully) have the heater fixed so I took a nice pic looking up to mid station. I checked about the prices and if you only go up once it costs €30 and a day ticket costs €40. We may be going on Friday. The other pic shows our powder stash, and we did it twice and were the only peeps on it!
