I wish I can come with you.
I am so envious and jealous but must keep working to pay the bills. Niederau is such a fab place.

Just back from Niederau....
The place needs some fresh snow.
Weather is really nice, didn't appreciate it was that cold Carolyn!!
Some patchs are showing through and reds 19 and 23/24 are pretty hard packed, with not much powder to make easy turns on.
Carolyn...are you the red school Carolyn with collar length brown hair??? Often to be seen on the blue next to the Harfenwirt (opposite road to Sonnschein)?

Hi Carolyn,
I'm coming back to Niederau on saturday, and I was just wondering what the forecast is - temperatures seem to be rising, and no snow forecast. Please tell me all is ok, and there's still plenty for a good week's skiing!

Blodyn,
We stayed in Neiderau four years ago at half tern when there was hardly any snow. They did a great job with the Cannon and the piste bashers and we had a great week. I'm sure next week will be fine. Unless it rains!
Although thats not the forecast.

Hey there, don't panic!!! Yes we have had sunshine lately and not any new snow for a while but all the runs are still perfect, all the patches have been covered with snow. I am indeed that red ski instructor, although this week I am in the village side rather than the Harfenwirt area! Forecast is for sunshine for the rest of the week and then to cool down and snow again. 4 Years ago was an awful winter for everybody but there has been excellent snow ever since and we do now have cannons on all pistes, new ones this year on the black runs from the chairlift and all along the schuss. Enjoy everyone! Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,
I've just booked into the Austria with 3 friends for a week from 5th March. I did see on the holiday-weather.com forecast that snow is due Friday through to Sunday. Is that what you are expecting? Obviosly I hope it snows again between then and when we get there.
Tested my new boots on a dry slope last week. That was much harder than real snow. Still hoping not to get relegated to Andreas' group this time - much as I enjoyed it there.
What's all this about creme eggs in the history of this chain? Is is a good idea to bring some with us? If so, how many? Wouldn't want to cause a fight due to being 1 short.

Ha! Well some kind soul asked if there was anything we missed from the UK (we have now been here 3.5 years!) and I may have mentioned creme eggs - any at all would go down a treat! Having worked for many years on a dry slope I know what you mean - you have to be more technically correct as there is no snow build up resistance under the skis - but having said that you will find it super easy here on the snow!! Andreas doesn't always take the same standard, so don't be worried about who you get, may even be me! We are expecting snow soon again, and conditions are still good, have been working hard on my suntan lately! Carolyn

Whoever gets the fun of trying to get me to snowplough, it's sure to be entertaining. If I can get the hang of that I may even be able to get down the top bit of the nursery slope instead of being escorted around the side on the deep soft stuff. Couldn't turn at all on the plastic as couldn't get the edges to dig in. Had to just aim across sideways and believe I was going to run out of speed at the end of the section.
Funny how creme eggs get missed. My brother put in an order for them and Marmite when he was living in San Fransisco for a few years and I went to visit him. Don't think he actually dipped them in the Marmite. I like cheese with my Marmite - and creme eggs on their own or with a glass or port perhaps.
Fingers crossed for the snow. It's raining here again.

I'm sure that whoever gets the undoubted pleasure of your company will get you turning and up to the top of the hill! Or have great fun trying!!! Yes we get the odd shipment of Marmite and will now have to try it with cheese. We are awaiting the snow now and hoping for some over the weekend - will keep you posted. Carolyn

Snowing again and minus 3 today. We are ready for this now and all looks as it should again. The north facing slopes have all held up wonderfully well lately as there hasn't been new snow for a while and it is good to see the south facing mountains and roof tops white again! Enjoy Carolyn

Just back from a week in Niederau, good spring snow conditions, beautiful blue skies, very friendly people & apart from ski school start times no queues for lifts. Started early & skied through lunch time, finishing at 3.30ish for an hours sunbathing on the balcony, absolute heaven.

Well we still have excellent snow despite lovely sunshine and looks to stay the same for the time being. Glad you had a good time, Chris, and I can't believe we are almost at the end of this season, seems to have shot past so quickly! Off to the sunny slopes again now - life is hard in the mountains!! Just got back from a great week in Niederau. Made vast improvements from last year, although the top of the nursery slope by the Harfenwirt still seems to be a bit of a problem for me (but I did get down it in the end albeit sideways). Loved the slalem and the silver medal and didn't actually mind the t-bar lift at the top of Markbachjoch despite everyone's warnings - just didn't like trying to keep away from the left edge of the supposedly easier run back down while snowploughing. Left knee is definitely weaker than right. It was worth going up there though to be able to hurtle back down to the gondola without worrying about steering on the wide straight bit. The new boots made such a difference. Strange to get home and find it has been snowing heavily in Scotland again. Back to work and normality today. Have already started planning for next year's skiing. Golf season starts next Sunday.
A big thanks to Walter and Evi for trying so hard to get my skiing under control and being so patient with me.

I'm hoping to bring a few more people with me next year. Maybe even my husband will give it a go - now that he has seen me return safely twice. Glad the creme eggs got to you safely. I'll try to eat a few fewer myself in an attempt to weigh less for next year. Evi did suggest that I considered having less chocolate (once she found out what they were).

Doing well with the creme eggs - thanks again! I can't believe it but we are now into the last week of our ski season here in Niederau! The sun is shining after a frosty start to the day. The upper runs are all still ok, but the lower pistes are now a bit patchy. Hope it holds out for our Instructors' Race on Saturday! Thanks for all the messages on here over the season, and good to have met some you you here, too. Let's hope for another great ski season next year! Carolyn

How did the race go? Who won? I saw from the webcam pictures that there was very little snow left at the bottom, but people were still managing to get down the bottom end of 24 back to the gondola.

Hi,
Well there was enough snow for the mountain runs on saturday, after the race we all went up to the chapel bar and had a few, well lots really, and some came down after dark! Toni won the senior men with Andreas second, Christian was the middle men winner with Thomas winning the youngsters' catagory. Andrea was young women champ and Yvonne the senior winner (I was third!) It was very icy and we all had 2 runs with most of us doing better times on the second. Great fun for all ending with a dinner and prize giving evening. Now we are all fired up looking forward to next year already! Hope you have agreat summer and see you next season xx

Well done on your 3rd place. Nice to see Andreas didn't crash this year. Well done to all the winners. The snow does seem to come to an end very suddenly. I have been looking into next year already, but at the moment there still don't seem to be any flights from Cardiff. Very odd. We may have to use Bristol again and fly at the crack of dawn. At least that gets us there early enough to pick up our lift passes etc on the Saturday, but it means we don't have any final morning there before we come back. Hoping to get out there for 2 weeks next time - and even bring my husband (Les) along too. Hope you have a lovely summer.
By the way - how did Evi do in the race?
Rhiannon

Good idea, bring Les and stay 2 weeks then you will really be flying! Evi was ill with bronchitis so didn't race so will be hoping to come back with a vengeabce next year! Cheers, Carolyn

Oh Dear. Poor Evi. She probably caught that off us. My friend Thelma had bronchitis all week and gave it to me to bring home and give to Les. Evi was teaching both of us. Hope she's better now.

Hi Carolyn - I fly a paraglider and had not realised that there was a licenced start and landing location in Niederau - which direction does that start face do you know? It could be an alternative location for me to fly when the wind is from the wrong direction in my neck of the woods! I cannot fly from my hill if the wind is coming from the east or south for example.
The web cam is showing a couple of really nice take off points but I can't see where the paragliders land.

Hi Sue, The paragliders start from the top of the gondola which faces north and usually land in the fiels to the left of the gondola ready for going up again, but at the Harfenwirt where the camera shows is the paragliding school which uses the field opposite the hotel for landing as they work their way up the hill. They do use a minibus when they start to go higher once they get going! Give it a try!! Carolyn

Still going strong at the moment ( have a look from our webcam www.auhof.co.at) Mind you the forecast is for mid twenties later on this week but today has nade us all start thinking of the up coming season! Lets all hope it is a good, snoway one again. Carolyn

Hello, we have been having some good frosts lately and it is starting to feel wintery because the car parks by the gondola and chairlift are full of snow canons, all lined up ready to be installed again! Thre is some digging on the training piste by the Harfenwirt which is either going to be a new lift or snow canons - maybe even both. We open in just under 2 months now and we are having snow on thursday apparently! Anyone coming over this year? Carolyn
