Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Laughing Well, they're new so I had to give them a run as they'll feel left out. They were lovely in the untracked snow, but pretty hopeless on piste (I swapped back to slalom skis for a couple of hours on the first day I used the High Societys as I was bored of slithering around).

From the smile on her face on Monday I don't think you had much chance of that, new snow or no new snow!

She did mutter something about this trip becoming a regular even t in the future...

Shocked Shocked There is loads and loads of snow here in Tignes!!!! Whoever is arriving this weekend and beyond is in for a treat when the weather clears up a bit. It snowed all night last night and all day today so far and still snowing now. Early this morning there was about 30cm of snow on the road up to the chalet and here we are at about 2100m. Further up there was more Very Happy Very Happy Bit windy at times, some strong gusts but who cares about that with all this snow everywhere Very Happy

MrsPhillipStanton reports via text that a guide dog and snorkel are essential kit for the day.

If a text could ever be called smug then it was definitely a very, very smug text.

VolklAttivaS5, It sounds fantastic out there.

Hope this isn't a stupid question, but how cold is it though? Is it really raw? I'm planning be wearing an Icebreaker 200 base layer, then a fleece, then my jacket. Hope this is enough as I hate feeling like Michelin Man!

rob@rar, stop it! wink Admittedly yes when you saw me those few days I did indeed have loads of layers on, 4 thin layers and a 100 fleece and then my shell, and looked like the Michelin woman too......but I was really feeling the cold then! I think I had some kind of bug because I had an upset tummy at the beginning of the week. The last day or two I've been wearing a lot less i.e. 1 base, 1 mid and then my shell and even today in the high rasping winds which were very chilly indeed at times I didn't feel cold at all. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy So that tummy bug I had would perhaps explain why I was feeling the cold a lot more than usual! I'm well tuned in now. wink Laughing

Beverley, it is fantastic! It has been throwing it down with snow! Big fat snowflakes too. Should be even more by time you get here. To answer your question, yes it can be very chilly at times when the wind picks up, but everyone is different with regards to what they need to wear or what they feel they need to wear. Goggles essential and a lot of people have been wearing balaclavas/face masks out and about on days like today. You will just have to trial and error like I did when I first got here to find the right combo, which might vary according to the conditions of course. Very Happy I am sure you are getting very excited about your forthcoming journey and rightly so. Everyone has said how much they have enjoyed the tuition. I haven't been on a course this week as you know, but I am next week and the week after.

jonm, yep, all being well. I don't know if I'm on mornings or afternoons yet, I will know on Saturday night I expect, but I will text you next week before you arrive on the 10th. I saw 2 ESF guys earlier on today skiing through waist deep powder. That is available in places, today I have been skiing through snow about calf height. Very Happy Very Happy

PhillipStanton, the way it's going then scuba gear would be in order never mind a snorkel. Laughing The visibility today has been ok most of the time, it's just when the wind has picked up and is swirling the snow around, that makes it a bit tricky then. I have loved it regardless! Very Happy Very Happy

Those heading to Tignes and elsewhere in the Alps would be well advised to be cautious about avalanche risk. Piste Hors is reporting potential for high risks when this current storm is over. Some of the off-piste exposures in Tignes were developing a bit of a crust from exposure to the sun, so I'd guess that these could contribute to slabs forming.
