Curtains, I'll have to look in the diary, but a free day sounds a bit unlikely tbh! Actually just looked and lessons every day that week - very sorry!
It was much warmer again today (hooray), for the second day in a row I didn't feel cold - I have a stinking one mind you! I didn't even put my bootheaters on! Mr BlizT was ill and had to cancel his lesson poor chap, but I made good use of the time changing the spark plugs for scorpy. Hopefully they'll both feel better tomorrow. I'm sure there's lots of christmas stuff going on in the town, but in my little hideout it's just nice and quiet.
I took a pic from just below the trees on the Grande Pente, which was fab to ski today. It was just really nice quality skier pisted snow - not totally packed and not yet mogulled. I looked towards where I took yesterday's pic and have marked the spot with a red blob.
Very happy Christmas to you all.

Helen Beaumont, Nick L, Curtains, thanks. It was a good day again today, not quite as sunny and warm as the last couple, but more than acceptable. I finished up taking BlizT down the Grande Pente which still had fabulous snow on it. she was back on skis today and seemed to enjoy it! I nearly forgot to take a picture, but just snapped one whilst walking home of the last sun on the Tete Moute at the top of the Super Diable. If you look carefully you can see little black dots (skiers) all over the diable run.

Hi everyone,
Following my endless requests for advice here I have just returned from a week snowboarding in LDA (15-22 Dec). I had a fantastic time, in what looks like the best week for conditions possible - just after the new snow and before it went to pieces in our splitting sunshine! I'd just like to thank Charlotte for recommending Luca to me for snowbaord instruction, and to pass on my recommendation to you all - if you need a snowboard instructor in LDA email Luca from Lungostyle (www.lungostyle.com) - he was funny, patient and had a really good "dont worry - youre on holiday after all" attitude.
Hello to easkski, paulmck and the other snowheads (whos screen names I cannot recall) who I met for a drink by the jandri - I hope all of you had as good a week as did I.
For anyone booked into Chalet Carlines this season you are in for a wee treat... the guy working the chalet this season is an excellent cook and both are excellent hosts - we felt that we got amazing value for money for this cheaper chalet as a result of their efforts!
Hope everyone has had a nice Christmas, than you all for your help here

peter.holland, Cheers, nice to meet you too.
today was a bit cloudier and cooler than of late, but not as overcast as expected. The sun did come out at times in the afternoon though and it certainly wasn't a bad day. The price for 3 warm days though is that the snow is getting harder low down, and the pisted face runs are getting some slightly scraped hard patches near the bottom. It's not all vanishing or anything like that, and it certainly isn't ice yet, but a little top up would be good. Having said that, the unpisted face runs are very good as is everywhere above the Cretes. Valentin was OK this morning. I'm taking my beginners up to the glacier tomorrow so will try to take a pic of higher up. sorry no pic today - batteries ran out.

A very nice day again today, and I'm sorry I forgot to take a photo again. I didin't think it was worth taking the same one again as 2 days ago (no change to notice). the glacier was good if chilly with a brisk-ish wind. snow excellent though. I skied from there down to the Cretes and the snow was excellent throughout. After skiing on the little Cretes I skied down the Grande Pente again and it was still just as good as it was.

It was distinctly chilly today (yesterday now), although the temps suggested otherwise. don't know why, there wasn't much wind and it was reasonably sunny. Anyway we had a good day and I've taken 2 pix to make up for the lack of them in the last couple of days: first is from the bottom of La Mura looking back up towards the glacier around 10.15 or so. the second is from the Belle Etoile chairlift looking over to the Petite Aiguille and the Chemin des Demoiselles at about 15.30 I have an unexpected day off today, and R32 is here fitting the beautiful gate he made me.

That's me just back in Blighty
Thanks for some excellent instruction Charlotte, my beginners were confidently taking Dome and Breche by day two, couldn't believe it!!!
We managed every Red in the resort, except La Fee, by yesterday and did some night skiing to boot, still not sure about the grading over there thought there's definately at least one blue which is steeper than blacks I've been down in Switzerland!!!
But what a fantastic week, great weather, not too busy, loads of slopes open (all I think) hopefully you'll get some more snow this week because we must have worn it away with all the skiing we did
Thanks again for the lessons, can't believe you got them going in just 2 hours, was the same with my brother last year ..... who needs a weeks worth of ESF Ski school respect to Easiski
See you in March

williams691, Thank you for the kind words, but they were all good students you've brought me. Good for them! Sounds like you had a great time here - meet for a coffee/beer in March?
R32, You did better than me. I didn't take any pix today although I had my camera and everything - just didn't get round to it I'm afraid.
I had an interesting day, and Kate F is here and asking about other Snowheads - she'd like to meet up. Now I know about Paul McK, Mrs & Chalky, I know about R32, (both of them), but is anyone else here this week and would fancy meeting up for a drink? Do let me know if you are/would.
In the afternoon I had a student who is very keen, a good skier (black no issue) but hasn't skied for 10 years. We spent 1.75 hours skiing the slopes in the town, challenging him on steep bits, running over streams, through woody bits - all sorts. No problem at all - far better than whacking up and down in the howling wind!

I haven't managed to get on the forum since before Christmas so I am relieved and delighted with all the positive comments especially about new snow. Making our way out on Saturday, first lesson on Sunday? if I am correct Charlotte? And can't wait . I'll drop you a line when back in work on Wednesday if that's ok? If anyone else is around next week and fancies a pint and if you can recommend a nice bar it would be great to get together

Well here's a photo from today looking up the hill from the terrace of the Patache restaurant at the Cretes. It was again quite chilly but sunny all day, the snow is still good, but there are the odd bare patches appearing on the off piste descents of the Face - not much but blades of grass poking out here and there. there are also the odd hard patch appearing, but it's not ice yet. Locals seem to think that it's going to snow tomorrow night and Thursday and Friday, which will cheer things up no end.
I hear it was lively in the town last night - rumour has it that a large group of italian youths chased the police around a bit!! I didn't hear anything down here though - it was great!!!

Helen Beaumont, Yes it was and they did!
Ray Zorro, Thanks, but it's going to snow with you isn't it? Said so ont he BBC this morning.
It was sunny this morning and not too cold - well, it was cold but not extraordinary. Went up to the glacier and found lovely snow on the Roche Mantel and Signal, and had a high speed run down tot he cretes after the first lesson. didn't find one single patch of hard stuff, which considering I was skiing for speed and to avoid others was pretty good. Snow on the Cretes was good, but it got really cold and quite cloudy inthe afternoon. I had no toes left at 16.30 when I had my first run down Sapins on the way home. the snow was quite good most of the way except for int he trees where it was pretty hard and a bit patchy. It would have been fine except for some very dodgy skiers and snowboarders who mobbed me! Below the trees was good to the side of the piste, and I had an 'interesting' descent onto the top of the nursery slopes.
I've bought a new pair of boot heater batteries so I expect to have warmer feet from now on.
the pic is from Sapins just above the trees looking towards the centre and Mont de Lans end of town at about 16.45.

In the end the amount of snow that actually fell today has been a bit disappointing. It was only about 5 cms at 2,400m - bah! Horrid, cold and flat light day. Evil wind high up so the lifts were only running to 2,900m (top of the Lac noir chairlift). Anyway, it's set to carry on for a bit, so we can all hope that more will actually fall out of the sky! Here's a pic I took from the path looking over the red top part of the Thuit which did have nice snow on it. Stupid calling it red though - the first few metres are almost vertical and although it does shelve out near the bottom, I reckon it would be classed black in many places (certainly in the 3V!)
Kramer, Give me a bell when you're in.
tommy10pages, If you fancy a drink apres ski one day give me a ring - number on each page of the website and you can find me at the tourist office! There are a few s around.

easiski, cool, will give you a bell, my mate wants to know where the best powder for boarding is (I'll stay on the pisted stuff personally!). We noticed on some maps le Chalance looks like a big red couloir, so he might grill you for anything else similar he can try out if it is open. I'm sure we can exchange a drink for a bit of local knowledge!

tommy10pages, chalance needs to be treated with serious respect - lots of rocks and a high chance that if you hit one you might head but the next one! Also a tendency to avalanche, but if your pal checks with the ski patrol .... don't know about powder stashes though as the wind has been evil for the last 2 days, everything shut high up, and the chances of it being powder rather than windblown crust are fairly remote. Keep your fingers crossed for some more snow over the weekend.
It was pretty vile again today, although it was snowing quite hard at 2,600m and the wind wasn't quite as bad as yesterday. That meant that all the peeps were stuck on the lower slopes and it was pretty packed. The face was good though, and I took Ger and his mates down Grande Pente (fab snow), and Chalky down l'Y later which was also good. that was better at the sides, in the middle there were a few bumps and some hardpack.
I have got a pic looking up the Cretes at around lunchtime FWIW!
We all got together for a drink apres ski, which was lively as it included all of Ger's mates and the non-snowheads who skied with me + the R32s etc. Extremely jolly!

easiski, cool I'll let him know. Tonight the chaps were poopooing me when I told them the winds at 3600m were 100kmh on the weather report this week, they wouldn't have it. I stood firm and annoyingly knowing. I remember it can get really fierce above 2900m, there's a movie on YouTube shot in the summer that shows the top end of I think the Jandri getting blown about like a toy lift.
Only 6 hrs till I get up and travel!!!!!!
