@dazzle109, does mixed snow and rain count as a dump (meteoblue forecast) - but suggesting 40-60 cms in Avoriaz which would presumably be nice? |
Meteo Suisse app has been busy today pining a fewheavy snow warnings above 1600m for nearby resorts in Vaud and Valais. Fingers crossed.

@dorhar, There seems to have been some issues with all the websites - there were massive queues for passes at the weekend as people couldn’t buy online. Certainly SERMA (Avoriaz) and Ski-Morzine have “upgraded” their websites with predictably spectacular results, including losing everyone’s previous order history.
May be connected, or could be due to the fact that opening was delayed by a week. Are you trying to buy LG passes or PdS? If the latter you can buy from any of the French company websites (but not Swiss to stop currency speculation apparently!). |
Got it to work by making an account, now just the painful part of paying for it all!
Time for a snow and cold air dance! Really looking forward to PdS as I have heard so many great things so would be good to have the Snow to explore as much as possible!

@dorhar, when are you going? It’s still looking pretty good for anything above 1500m but a bit scarce low down.

Going to les gets, but staying in a chalet where they will drive you round to morzine if the snow is sparse low down (by the sound of things even if it isn’t sparse and you just want to start your day there).
I’m also just greedy and always want more snow. In reality I am just really happy to be out on a set of skis, and finally get to PdS (I was meant to go Covid year).

Are you going this weekend@dorhar? Les Gets/Morzine are opening most of the area but just not the home runs (you will be able to ski back to Chavannes on the LG side but Pleney on Morzine side will be bubble download).
If you have a shuttle arranged and PdS passes then I’d suggest getting dropped and collected at the Ardent bubble as that puts you right into Lindarets where you can go straight over to Chatel, straight on for Switzerland or over the ridge into Avoriaz - all avoiding any real pinch points.
You can also ski back to the car park at the end of the day and Happy Hours is a decent place for a beer (though it can be a bit rowdy on Wednesdays).
I’d definitely recommend Ardent over Prodains as an access point - if you’re there at a busy time the Tour lift in Avoriaz can be horrible and the home run is more prone to sketchiness at the bottom than the Ardent equivalent.

Anyone had any success tracking down their Soleils points on the new liftpass websites? I'm sure I had a bunch but my account is saying "0"

I'm at exactly that stage of hoping to add them @Dashed, but can't find them either. Any help gratefully received.

Going for New Years week, so a bit of time for snow, but good to know about the lifts.
Family friend has a place in Chatel so might make it easier to meet up with them as we only overlap for a day.

Yes, mine are still there (the purchase history isn’t though) under “consult my soleils” on the SERMA site. I can also see them on Morzine as I’ve bought from them in the past as well.

@Dashed, @snowfraise, I mentioned this to my contact at the Pleney pass office today, she says the new system has some "teething problems", but all the data from the old system is archived and slowly being transferred over. Other bugs with more urgent priority keep popping up, but sooner or later Soleils will get to the top of the list. If you need to use them in the meantime, contact the pass office.

It’s gorn. If you still have it (at least on iPhone) it still works but it’s gone from the stores. There is an “Avoriaz Up and Down” app, but other than that you need to use the website for lift status etc.

Doesn’t work on the latest iOS, as I found out when it auto installed. I had to offload the app

It does on mine - I have a naggy bloke from work that insists that I update within about ten minutes of Apple releasing an update, and it all still works ok (weather forecasts, lift staus and webcams anyway).

The info on the map has been crap since the openings started too. Not sure if it's more reliable today but I've definitely had to check several different websites to understand what's open and what's not.

@andy from embsay, that’s weird. It wouldn’t open for me. Said it needed the developer to update it to the current iOS so I ditched it.

Blimey @DJL - don’t tell our cyber-security boffins (they all think they’re on Spooks or something - fighting off Russian hackers they insist are specifically targeting a small firm in York). iPad iOS is on 17.2.
Surprised you haven’t had your entire identity sold to a Nigerian crime syndicate.

It’s an iPad Air 2 and apparently “ Original: iOS 8.1 Current: iPadOS 15.8, released October 25, 2023”
Quite an old device but keeps plodding on. My work one is an iPad Pro 3 Gen and on 17.2. App works on that too.

We skied on Christmas Day for the first time yesterday - terrific fun. Plenty to ski espec higher. The Arbis was in cracking condition until the last thirty yards and not very busy at all. I don’t know why the Fenerets and Arnica are shut into the bowl? Hate that walk!
We came down via le Lievre which is just a white stripe, up the Fys and down the Pleney bubble. The guys have done a stellar job. Off to Chatel now.

I think someone asked about the Pysae (Châtel bus) app a few pages ago.
It worked yesterday to get back to town from pre la joux. A bus showed up on the app that actually existed and I took it.
Today however, the app showed no buses connected.
Châtel/PDS really feels like the 1950s when it comes to tech. Nothing works.

Happy holidays you Snow freaks.....from Mont Chery today, front and back were manifique, probably saw 20 people in 4 hours.....almost as good as the opening day last season, which was ridiculous. Really stark snowline around the valley, 1400-1600m depending on aspect, deep white v deep green and all the seasonal colours, always my favorite time of year. Here's the snow |
Saturday was indeed magnifique, Chamossiere above the clouds, quite empty apart from race clubs (and even then, only U8-U14, older ones must be in Avo), decent snow higher up, good work from SAGET lower down.
And back there this week, obviously busier, but still fine considering.
I did check last season's opening pics, this is overall way less depressing.

Arbis was great until that last part - in fact it's more fun on piste than under the lift (wife and boy went, I took our little one as an excuse to stay on the red).
Re. the walk up to Nauchets, I hate it too. So this morning we went down Arnica... and won't do it again until they open it. I don't mind icy runs, but little broken bits of ice all over the place for the whole run? Not worth it.

We went to Crosets instead of Chatel and had a huge amount of fun on the runs either side of the Ripaile drags. The off piste is very hard so staying on the piste. Chavenette was closed yesterday but the Pauvre Conche was open - hasn’t been the last few times we’ve been here.
Ardent car park was very, very busy.
Blue skies all day.

Can report lots of snow in the Châtel Pre La Joux and Linga sectors with home runs open and well covered to the car parks. Super Châtel not so good below 1500m and requires downloading. It’s quite busy for the holidays and next week will be heaving. I am yet to venture to Linderets and Avoriaz.

Finally arriving to Avoriaz next month (Atria Crozats).
It's a skimates collective choice based on lower price rather than location, I understand it's perfect for ski in ski out and views but we will not be in the center.
Planning to return with my non skiing OH, any recommandation for a decent no (Hotel Dromont ) eye watering central place?
One more thing - any logic in taking a bus in order to ski La Chapelle d'abondance and Abondance? Roc d'Enfer?
TIA
