@clarky999, I'm remaining positive......chilled out Christmas, great food and wines and a couple of lazy slack off-piste days before it starts and doesn't stop on 27/28th Photos from Lech looking good and some great skiing up high on Schindler, skins all primed!

@Stanton Thanks for the info. When I was talking about passes I understand you never get a refund. The decision will be more of do we go for full 6 day passes or shorter combinations with days off e.g. don't bother the first day, Sunday, then maybe take the Wed off so 2 x day day passes (Mon&Tue, Thu&Fri)? Normally I'd ski all day every day but if weather and piste conditions ain't ideal I'm open to 'alternatives', especially since the wife and son aren't as strong skiers.

@Ravelin, There are hourly refund possibilities if you just want to slide for a couple, few hours
You have to plan (because of Queues in High Season) carefully in order to minimise time on lift & max out your time on the slopes! i.e buy your ticket when there is no queue at ticket counter or Lift !
""""The usage time is measured from the issue of the hourly card at a till, until the time it is personally handed back at one of our cash desks.""""

@Stanton Doubt I'd bother with hourly, there comes a point where the money saved isn't worth the hassle involved in doing so. I may be a Scotsman, but it is supposed to be a holiday.

@stanton, We've all got skins and use them at high level but going from valley bottom when there's a lift over your head seems a waste of time when you've got limited time in resort. I'd rather be skiing than walking..... If you're local and can pick your times and are happy to get out at 7.30am then that's fine.....I guess most of us mere mortals have to go with the flow!

@Markymark29, Lifts make for Lazy/Sleepy legs, one reason why i think they should remove the foot rests Or bring back more surface lifts (T bars)
Hiking up strengthen the thighs & pumps the lungs .....You earn your Turns!!

Skied in Lech and Zurs yesterday. The runs with snow making are in reasonable condition. The blue run 38a which links Lech to Zurs is currently marked as a ski route but was fine yesterday with just a couple of patchy bits. The worst snow we saw was above Zug, where run 43 had opened yesterday. It was very patchy, and they'll need some natural snow to open any more pistes in that area or even keep 43 open.
Skied Stuben and St Christoph areas today. The runs above Stuben were in fairly poor condition, but suitable. The St Christoph area was lovely, with almost everything open. We could see some people venturing off piste as well, who seemed to be having a reasonable time.
Basically, if the temperature drops enough for the snow cannons, all the runs with snow making will be lovely, but they're going to struggle to keep some of the others open without natural snow.

Another lovely day's skiing above St Anton yesterday. The pistes we skied were still in great condition. Things were getting a bit busy, with idiots not fully in control straight lining down blue runs, but I guess that's Xmas week in St Anton.

I'd take any forecast that far out with a huge pinch of salt. If it's still saying cold and major snow for the start of Jan this time next week then you can start to get excited. If it's still showing 3 days before it's due then get really excited.
For now I'll be content with the temperature dropping below zero when I'm out next week. If I actually see it snow before I leave on 2nd Jan then even better, but at the moment I'd say that looks doubtful.

@Ravelin, I'm going tonight, Hull/Rotterdam ferry (could be a tad choppy given the wind) - it'll be ace whatever the weather, be ironic if winter starts the day we set off back 2nd January though, back out on 20 Jan and last week Feb so its all good!

@markymark29 Currently, despite normally being an optimist, I'm going with the 'heavy snow on 2nd/3rd Jan' scenario. It'll be my only trip but at least I'm only 1.5hrs from Glenshee if it snows in Scotland (and stays cold enough for it to not all melt the day after). Be ironic if I get better snow in Glenshee than St.Anton this winter.
Whatever happens I'm going to enjoy it.

FYI
If there is a major weather front in the new year and days of heavy snow. Nearly everything (lifts) are closed down until the area is made safe. Only lower valley lifts operate. Upper lifts can be closed for days . Galzigbahn they try to open asap.

@Jarmsimo, hi Simon, thanks for getting in touch. Hope the forecast dump Arrives and there's some snow while we're there. Out for a fortnight too so will probably bump into you at some time. Will probably book 5 days during the second week with Piste to Powder. All the best. Tony

Out on Boxing Day... Is it worth bringing the skins for something else to do when the piste madness gets a bit much? Maybe skin to Madloch or something like that? Looking at an ischgl day trip as a definite possibility aswell

@hollando, i always take touring gear as conditions should be better away from the lift accessed off-piste slopes.

Its difficult to keep the existing snowpack with this very mild weather. Pistes still holding up & i would say still not as bad as last season ...yet.
Terrace weather & right now they need to be serving Ice Cream & Pina Coladas instead of Gluhwein & Tiroler Grostl

Like Stanton says, the pistes are holding up. Nice spring skiing up there today, not sure what it's like first thing with regards to crowds, but lunchtime was lovely.

Had a great morning and early afternoon on Galzig, conditions ok, icy but cold and sunny weather, super quiet. Back down early for steam and big Weinachten celebrations. Nice feel in town, and just bumped into an old work colleague....small world! If you're coming out don't worry there's plenty to do, Frohe Weinachten!!🎄🇦🇹👍

@stanton, The section at 1:20 reminds me of many outings in the late '80s & early 90s...
But enough of that silliness - Please update us asap on the latest from the FARMERS - do they see any prospect of snow?

@stanton, all a bit uncivilised for Lech. Maybe the police suspect soap-dodging riff-raff over from St Anton for the day.
