Chris Brookes, haven't left yet, the new funicular replacement thing isn't running so you have to get to stechelberg by bus then up. Think I'll take the car, driving in snowboard boots sounds like fun.
I also have physio at 5 so I'm wondering if it's worth it at all to go there.

stab, at least going via Stechelberg you wont have to walk far.
YES, its worth it and stop being lazy..

just got back, no pictures unfortunately. Snow is still really good over there, didn't bother with the schilthorn down as for me it's a waste of time going up there for one run, if there was powder then it's a different story.
And I have to say that the new chair lift is indeed direct from the gods, it's transformed that area from a badly thought out T bar hell to actually a nice little circuit.
Back tomorrow

You know it makes sense.
stab, totally agree with you about the Schilthorn as you waste so much time just for that one run. The new Riggli Chairlift has made a huge difference to that ski area. I wonder come the summer if they will get rid of the old T bar bottom station and widen the piste there.

Local people are flapping around saying the world is ending, or at the very least a lot of snow is coming in may/June. Even if it doesn't snow they say summer will be shoite as we didn't get the snowfalls this winter so it will come as rain in the summer. I give up, if I ignore them it will snow, if I get excited and buy snow shoes it won't snow.
God know's how they know this, most of the time they don't know what day it is, myself included.

bring a clothes peg for your nose, a farmer just parked something outside my house and made a load of noise, 10 minutes later I'm thinking "jesus there's a smell in this house" look outside and it's the muck spreader flinging cow crap everywhere, it's all over the patio area outside my kitchen.
I ran out of weed last night, it's really the wrong day to be throwing crap at my house, going to go out there soon and give him a piece of my mind (a very small piece, haven't much left).

Schilthorn rocks, I was basically alone up there today, a few people around and that's it.
Plus I got some pictures for chris brookes
Top of schilthorn, yes i went up there, was the 1st time I ever came down on the piste from schithorn, bit of a waste of time to be honest, http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4hax4sn
The piste, absolutely packed, http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2pp0t2p
Same piste from the riggli lift, http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=4c0zbs2 did my head in all those people, was like xmas again
It felt like it was starting to snow when I left the top, was raining in wengen when I got back.
stab, thanks for the pics.
You can tell it close to the end of the season but still loads of snow on the piste, its great when its empty.
I try and get the first Cablecar up in the morning before the crowds arrive from Wengen
Were all three chairs working today and could you ski back to the village still ?
yeah the 3 chairs were going, is it muttlern, kandahar and riggli? I don't know the names of them. They were turning the lifts off when nobody was using them, was great, just like a personal lift.
I personally want to try and get back to the village but my mate (a skier) was crying about it. I say it's possible to get to the boardpark (just).

stab, you are correct on the names.
You should have tried it then, much better than getting the cablecar.
Its a great run from the top of the Riggli chair to the bottom of it aswell as the top of the Kandahar to the bottom station..speed speed and more speed !!

I'll give it a go tomorrow, I don't mind a bit of a walk, it's better than being in the lift.
Here's a useless fact, I have 124 days so far on the mountain and have had 983 ski lift rides.

Useless data:
Sport-days: 60 (yes thats low, but club-med snowgarden teachers don't get up the mountain a lot ;P)
Elevation gain: 332812
177 rides on the Lauberhorn chair...
22 times on the opening day (10th of december) ("how to trash a piste in 1 day")
0 rides on Egg and Hohwald (never cought them open)
Craziest day: Elevation gain: 15166m on 14th of march in Murren (on Stoeckli GS you can straightline the engetal blue from top to bottom )
Anyone want more useless info?

Ronald, how the hell did you get so many lauberhorn rides with only 60 days? I guess that's the difference between skiing and snowboarding.
Last day today, after this it's back to waiting for the winter again, zermatt in July, repairing my board and my body.
So have a nice sunday, because I'll be ripping the ass out of schilthorn until last chair. (I'm not there now because I'm fussy about boarding on ice, and I have no edges on my board, which I found out yesterday morning on the schilthorn black 10).
I hate the end of the winter, more than I hate a crappy start to the winter.

stab, teachers training helps a lot. The first week only arven and lauberhorn were open, and arven started out as sheetice, so we didn't go there a lot.
The first 2 weeks were good for about half of my Lauberhorn rides.
Last week I mostly skiied on the Stoeckly GS skis (part because my Volkls are in a fairly crap state), which actually do feel secure nearly straightlining the Lauberhorn, also in slush, which is totally amazing...
Liftgate to Liftgate in 6 or 7 minutes... only possible because it got really really quiet in the afternoon my last days.

Stab, I know how you're feeling. It's a sad day when the board and skis get washed, waxed and put under the bed.
Are you hanging around Wengen in the summer or off to Zermatt?
I'm on for the Haute Route and a possible Jungfrau or Wetterhorn climb weather permitting. It'll be good to get on the snow again, even if it is at 3500+ meters!

I was on the jungfrau today, went up there just to get my ass cold, was a nice feeling And went to look for a kicker building site for the summer.
I stay here for the summer, zermatt will be a few days over a few months whenever I can squeeze it in.

Investments in 2007
The good course of business forms a solid basis on which we can dedicate ourselves to the long-term future of our company. The substantial investment steps which we have introduced are worthy of mention. In 2007 we are building a water reservoir at Fallboden, capacity 75,000 m3, for snowmaking. At the same time we are realizing a further stage in snowmaking facilities. In addition, the Honegg draglift is being replaced by a six-seater chairlift. With this facility (estimated total cost CHF16.9 million), we are assuring the quality of our snow sport offer. The aim is to increase the competitiveness of JUNGFRAU Winter in the face of increased international competition.

Spending that much i hope it improves the ski area !!

We will never be making a snowboard park because we secretly long for the good old days of 100% skiers on our slopes, if you want to snowbaord go somewhere else, DHO were here 1st. |
That jungfraubahn just announced record profits of something dumb like 128 million for 2006. They are rumoured to be moving into mystery park, using it as offices. Don't know how true that is, much like most of my rumours.
Even more exciting news is that the interlaken gemeinde (council) have approved 17'000 francs for the skatepark to be refurbished, woot woot.
